Hello all.
Got the complete OME kit with hd springs from Rocky-Road outfitters. It's supposed to be arriving some time today... YAY!
Had a few questions though.
[1]Didn't get the front springs/struts pre-assembled. Wondering if that perhaps was a mistake, seeing now that "it includes strut top caps and spring isolators". What other parts, pieces, and/or odds n ends might a need? Spring iso? Stut craps? Plates? Or am I in-fact, good to go like we thought when ordering the "kit" parts wise?
[2] Chosen shop (only reputable 4x4 shop I know of in my immediate area (jeep specific too and they for sure do good work)) quoted me at $850 for parts installation and alignment service. Said it would take them two days to complete. They do tend to be lil' expensive, but that seems rather expensive for just the labor. What do you all think?
Should I look out side my immediate area? Don't mind a lil bit o f a drive.
[3] How hard is the installation? We have a friend that would try and do the install for us for $250, they have done and assisted with a few pick-ups and a (non jeep) SUV or two. They claim to have all the needed tools like spring compressors and what not. Also have another friend that did a really nice VERY tall custom lift of his truck and several lifts for his friends that would be willing to help us for free when he isn't too busy (has a lot work related time constraints, some times). I know just as alignment averages around $80-99 at shops in this area. Being a bit new at this, kind of want it done right the first time... I used to be pretty handy at working on lots of older sports cars, but that was like 10 or more years ago...
[4] Would really like to get the clevis lift too try and get that extra ~inch for max safe lift, not sure if really necessary, and of coarse want the extra inch or so... But worry the about cost and shipping times from forgotten or incorrect parts. Like brake line relocation and such.... That $850 install is all-ready starting to put things a lil' bit out of reach... I know we need top plates, 4-8 conduit nuts (usually 6) and I think 4 rear spring isolators. I read some needed an extra 1 or 2 for leveling, so 5-6 intotal some times... But how meany TOP iso's and how many LOWER iso's are needed?
I know we wouldn't want to bother with doing the cleavis lift after the fact at all... or at-least for a long while. Lol. I got another truck for my self that I really want to get work on, this is for meh girly and really want ever thing perfect for her... Have a lot of work ahead of me on my project so I'd LOVE not to have to revisit the suspension issue for her on tell its time to replace the upper controll arms with JBA's. Would do it now, but we JUST put new OME UCA's, upper, and lower ball joints in a few months back...
Thanks every body for all your help! And your honest opinions about what the best steps moving forward would be.
Y'all are grate!
