it just seems to stand out as a concern

I wanted too pretty bad when I had that axle out to paint it. Didnt want to cut the clip holding the boot on for the splines. If I had a good way to put a clamp back on it I would of done it. Some people put pipe clamps or just zip ties on it but I didnt want to do that.

ok, so if no one hasn't noticed anything different, why take it off? More clearance?

Sometimes they get bent up offroad. Its less weight too.

I remember a while ago on the Australian Forum, one guy was driving along after a day out wheeling and suddenlt started to get a vib go thru the car, his mate behind him saw something fly out form under the car at the same time, so they stopped and looked for what came off and.... it was one of the balancers. He drove it home , but at a slower speed so the vibration was kept low, and then got a new bolt, reattached the weight and all was good again.

http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/sho ... whats+this

So... maybe it does , maybe it doesn't, could also depend on the amount of lift you are running as a higher lift will result in a greater driveline angle , so more vibs for the balancer to counteract. ???

I'm leaving mine on for the moment..

Officially, it is a "Vibrational Mass Damper".

Once you lift the rear end (and add the additional weight of a larger spare, rear tow bar, fuel-tank skid, etc.) you have more than made up for the weight of it.

As Troy would say, "your results may vary", but there was no difference in how mine handled with it on and with it off, so off it came.

As for the rear sway-bar -- I have gotten a little more articulation out of having it off....

That's good to know. I have plenty of weight to make up for damper, so I'm going to remove mine. If I can shed some unnecessary pounds, then I'm all for it. I already removed my torsion bar.

Well, I finally got around to removing the vibration dampener today……………officially neutered. It seems to weigh pretty close to 15 lbs. tjkj2002 took my rear sway/torsion bar off, so I’m not sure how much that weighed. If the sway bar weighed around 15 lbs, then I guess I’m 30 lbs less, which is pretty significant considering all the other stuff I have added.

no swaybar and no dampener, haven't noticed any difference.
