I have never had to loosen the cam bolt on any of the 8 or 10 lifts to date, no sense in creating more work, as mentioned above rachet strap works great everytime on any lift, even when adding way more than what you're suppose to be able to cram in there

I had never heard of it having to be done either,... until we did ChiroKJ's Frankenlift. There was no way to get the clevis attached to the LCA without changing the angle (to get the "strut assembly" low enough without hitting the body)...

We had already broken a racket strap when we figured this out...

Bigger rachet straps     We did one with a Frankenlift, 3 clevis nuts and a Rustys top spacer with the straps, tough but we got it all crammed in there.
You know how some people with black jeeps are with red under carriages they want to "try" and be taller but it never works for them

  Yeah, I hear you, Tom.

But seriously, without moving the cam bolt on the right side of his '02 there would have been no way to get it to fit (we are not talking about 1.5" or so, we are talking it being off something like 3-4") because the springs kept on knocking against the body before they could get low enough to align...

You could have strapped it to your heart's content and something in the suspension would have have to actually bend before that was going to line up...

The only thing that I could figure is that whoever the tech-monkey was (or the previous owner) who had done the last alignment job on it (when it was still factory height) has done something VERY odd to it...

Never could find out what size the UBJ nut is. Everything I searched just says it takes a 21mm socket. However, wife called the dealer. He has to order them, but he'll have them in the morning and I should still be able to make my mortgage payment when I'm done. They are a whopping $1.60 each. (I'm getting 2) :D

I told my boss that the Jeep (wife's daily driver) is still tore apart and asked if I could take a vacation day tomorrow to get it back on the road. So, I'll relax tonight and pick up my nuts in the morning and finish the job.

O.K., ya'll. Before this digresses into a conversation about getting our nuts, I have some questions about the Daystar 2.5" lift I just got for my '06 sport. I would appreciate help with what I want to do and NOT what others think I SHOULD do. I want increased clearance I can afford for wheelin' Forest Service roads getting to trailheads on the A.T. in GA & NC. :!:
1) Where can I get, or how can I fab a rear brake line bracket extension, or can a longer brake line work?
2) Can I substitute a stock '98 - '03 Dodge Durango rear shock ($22) for the suggested Rancho RSX17004?
3) Do I need a longer brake line for the front?
4) Can the struts and shocks be swapped from one side to the other to compensate for any perceived sag?
The KJ has 24000 miles on it as a dd and I don't do any serious, extreme off-roading. To date just Camp Jeep scenic and intermediate trails and F.S. roads. I would like to upgrade the suspension as it wears out but for now will be happy with increased clearance. I am new to this, so be gentle and try not to get your nuts off razn' me about my choice.
John

Here's the JBA extended brake lines

http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-SS_brake_hos ... ft-12.aspx

there's another set if you plan to stay at 2.5 or under

i'll let the others chime in as to whether you need these or an alternative option

hopefully something alternative that's cheeper, looks like the full set for up to 4-6inches of lift is about 300 bucks

GENTLE...........On ..............YOU, why should we treat you any different than all the others
1. you can fab a rear brake line extension from a piece of flat metal, theres a picture somewhere on here of what it needs to look like.
2. You could I suppose get by with them but like stock KJ shocks they will now give you the ride or last as long as what a Rancho would.
3. No longer brakes lines are needed for the front
4. Not sure whay you want to go side to side for sag? Are you using the stock front shocks( struts) ? Also get some front bumpstops from Teraflex it will keep your front suspension happy with the Daystar

Tonights sermon is now over
Rev. Mudd wishes all that are traveling a safe journey
Amen

Thanks for the quick response. Cobolt-60 suggested I try ALL-J Products and they e-mailed me saying they had the brake lline bracket.
I realize the benefit of a Rancho over standard non-adjusting shocks but I don't usually get into the slam-jamb of serious bouldering...just ruts and the occasional wash out on F.S. roads and am more interested in not blowing out my suspension until I can afford a serious lift.
The sag thing was more a curiousitiy than anything else as I am using the stock struts and coils and my 230 lbs is rarely countered on the passenger side. Thanks for the heads up on the front bumpstops. I was not aware I had to do that.
As far as the sermon...preach on, Brother

One more tidbit of info for you. If you can still find the Daystar KJ09115BK kit, it already has the extended front bumpstops from Daystar. The newer KJ09116BK and others do not have the bumpstops. You will have to buy them seperately. Everything else is the same in the kits, and they cost the same usually.

DOH!!! That's exactly the kit I got from Superior 4X4...the KJ09115BK. It came with 4 "stem cushions". Would that be the "bumpstops" you refer to? The 1 year daystar intall update on the fabrication blog didn't show taking those off...just putting some on and I assume that's what their for.

As an aside...May I say that everyone on this site rocks. There is a wealth of info and the feedback is outstanding, not to mention the pictures. I'm so glad I found it. Again, thanks for the help. I have all the confidence in the world that in time I will have a bad a##, kick-a## Libby that I can do some serious off-roading in.

Thanks. Yep, the car is my step-daughter's cavalier. The yellow ranger is mine. She was parked in my spot that day.
