 Post subject: Post Lift issues. Please help?

ok just got my new wheels (16x8, 5 on 4.5", 5" backspacing) and tires (Firestone Destinaton M/T 245 75 R16) put on yesterday at a Firestone Auto care place.
here's what they told me the problems are with it: "customer has installed 6" lift kit, car has a wander, alignment was done under factory spec. Advised customer
tires do rub onto sway bar and inner fenderwell"


ok now not sure why they would say i've got a 6" lift...but anyway i thought that was funny. ok so how big of a problem
is this and how do i fix it? will i run into problems if i keep driving it like this?
i know i can trim the federwell to prevent some of the rubbing right?...but the swaybar?..how do i fix that? :

now the alignment issue...after driving it yesterday..yes it does wander and my steeringwheel when the tires straight..veers to the right.
i can post the before and after specs if that will help? how do i fix this? :(

sorry for all the questions..i'm just aggrivated but i guess ya gotta work the kinks out after a lift and new tires. :?

First thing I would do is take it to another shop to have it re-aligned...you're not going to be able to align a lifted vehicle to factory specs like they said. As for the swaybar rub, you'd need a wheel with more offset to stop that.

How long have you had your Frank. Lift? I know many others have said it takes some heavy punishment to settle. Other then that, I am not sure where to begin.

i've had the lift for about a month but haven't really driven it a whole lot and definately havn't had a chance to take it off road at all...but how does this help the rubbing and alignment issues?

A good alignment shop will find a "happy medium" and at least get your KJ moving straight down the road. As for the wheels...I'd wait on doing anything with those. Between a good alignment and the Frankenlift settling you might be okay. But yes, more offset means the same thing as less backspacing.

You could get some 1/4" wheel spacers and then machine them down to 1/8" or so...that should help with the sway bar problem...but it will cause a little more fenderwell rubbing because it will increase the arc the wheel/tire travel...so you need to beat down the rear pinch weld and do a little front inner trimming of the plastic and maybe front air darn.

Really not that hard to do it all...you are only going to run into a problem/rubbing when fully articulated or in reverse with the wheel turned hard.

The only real fix for the rubbing is, smaller tires. So, get use to not turning the wheel as sharply to the point it rubs. When it starts to make noise, let off. Just something you have to get used to with the bigger tires.

P.S. Also check your tire pressure, if it's to high, you're running on the center of the tire and that can cause steering problems.
