I did some wheeling this weekend and my rig has been idling rough ever since. I did some water crossing deep enough to submerge my tailpipe, mudd and sand dunes. I did notice I lost some power on the dunes and had trouble getting up a few hills.

Now that it has been a few days and it's still idling rough, I'm gonna have to track it down.

I'm thinking maybe I fouled plug a on the dunes.

I have no error code or check engine light

Any suggestions where to start?

Check your serpentine belt...Especially around the Tennsioner Pulley's. There have been a few instances where they break or wear down from wheelin. If not that then change or check for water in the engine oil.

Engine oil looks good. I did have some belt noise last week. I checked the belts this morning and they looked ok. Which one is the serpentine belt? I'll take another look at it. What is the best way to check the tension?

Thanks

maybe you have some water in the spark plug holes where the coils go each spark plug.

there is also a vacuum line on the left side of the t-body. these come loose sometimes and cause a rough idle. Check that as well. I have seen 5 of these hoses come off and cause this. Hope that helps. Later...Clint

Ok I figured it out. Aside from the rough idle. I was also getting some vibration and the exhaust seemed to be getting louder. The belt, plugs and vacuum lines were fine. I decided to take a close look underneath. Turns out, I bent my tranny skid into the exhaust pipe.

I took it off and pounded it with a sledge, put it back on and it runs and sounds like new.

I don’t know how they are related but it was definitely running rough before I separated the skid from the exhaust.

Thanks for your ideas guys. It helped me narrow it down without going to the stealership :D

When you picned the exhaust, that made the hole for the exhaust to escape narrower, which in turn, would create more pressure as the exhaust is trying to squeeze through a smalled opening than usual. Now that you've pounded the dent back out, you have a happy jeep again :) Make sense?

Would have to wonder how that effected your MPG driving it like that.... :?:

That or having the exhaust system pushed tight against the skid was transfering a lot of vibration and noise into the body of the KJ which might have just sounded rough.

In my s10 blazer i pinched the Y-pipe right where the left and right manifolds join. It sounded terrible, I LOST 4 mpg. Horsepower was noticeable lower. I used my two favorite tools to fix it: Torch and BFH. Drove like a champ after that. BTW: tree stumps are tougher then exhaust pipes.
