05 Renegade, just noticed a lot of blue-green grease around my wheel well, all over the LCA and strut. No strange nosies, no problems driving and steering, just a lot of grease. I'm guessing I have a torn CV Boot. I looked for a tear and couldn't find one, but I don't think that means there isn't one. Dropping it off at the dealership tomorrow morning, will give a full report on the experience. I'm pretty confident that it was not offroading or a lift-install that caused it, since I I last went offroading on Memorial Day, and I've checked that area a few times since then (and it was only this weekend that it was grease-spattered). 8am Dropped the Jeep off at Grava in Medford, MA today. The work order says "grease found around front passenger wheel, please advise". No work is authorized, yet, I expect they will call me when they take a look at it to advise me on what to do (and tell me what they will do, and for how much $$). In the meantime, I have a Dodge Dakota with just under 900 miles on it to drive, courtesy of my extended warranty. Will keep the thread updated on my progress 11am: still no call. That means that they either haven't looked at it, yet, or they are knee-deep in it despite having no authorization from me to fix things. 3:45pm: I decided to call them since I haven't heard anything. They transferred me around and then put me on hold. They haven't gotten around to looking at it, yet, they might need to put it off until tomorrow. Fine with me, I have a rental. I wish I'd known sooner so I could have the things in the jeep that I need with me. 4:20pm: Just got off the phone with them, they said there is nothing they can do. They say that the lift is causing the CV joint to be at an angle and that is what is causing the grease to leak or boot to tear. They wouldn't tell me if it was torn or not, but told me that I should bring it back to where I got the lift installed and have it removed. |

Sounds like it's torn somewhere. The dealership charged me close to $400 to do the repair. I was going on a road trip the next day, so I had them do it. Next time I'm doing it myself. |

$400 for just the booties, or did they have to replace the CV axle? $400 seems like a heck of a lot for replacing some rubber boots, I agree. I'm hoping that the warranty will cover it, but I'm almost certain it won't. |

Yep, just the booty! They called it wear and "Tear"! They also noticed the lift and ever since have blamed all breakage on the lift. I have since found another dealership that is lift friendly. |

Just FYI The iner boot is $28 and the outer boot is $69. (My iner boot came with grease and clamps) Yes you can do it your self, the only bad part is the clamps they give you require a crimping tool. |

It's definitely the inner boot, but I can't for the life of me find the tear. There's grease all over the place, and it's clear that it came from that direction, but I felt all around it - it must be a really small tear or pinch. I'm gonna see what the stealer says. If they plan to just replace the boot and charge $400, I'll do it myself. If they plan to replace the CV and/or cover it under warranty, I won't stop em. |

Did you read JeepinAl's CV boot repair suggestion in my install thread? I've got one I need to fix also. Also, if you clean it up real well first, it may be easier to find the spot. |

Yeah, I suspect if I were able to find the hole I could fill it with grease and seal it back up. I'm going to see what the dealership says before I make any quick-fix repairs. |
