(Poll) Who has had air in their fuel filter?

To get a better idea about the percentage of those who have had to take action to correct the air in fuel filter problem, please let everyone know your trials and tribulations or your luck with your Jeep.

You need to look at the first two choices :shock:

I had a air in fuel problem :cry:

And

I corrected it with a lift pump :lol:

My problem showed less then a mile from the dealership the day I bought it new and of course they "could not duplicate" the problem :wink:

The only action I've taken so far is to purge the filter head often, with the needle valve bleeder from Lube Specialists. In the colder weather, running some biodiesel on the highway, the vehicle shut down on me several times. After bleeding was no longer effective in preventing the shutdown (limp?), replacing the filter got me home. I'd never changed the filter before, with 65k on the clock. I've yet to dissect it to see how clogged it was. But now I think the primer in my filter head popped as I can't get a consistent purge, so it's getting replaced with a Racor. But no shutdowns since the filter change; I hope I can still get out to Kansas City next week.

65k on the original filter!!!! :shock:

Isn't the maint. interval like every 20k? I changed mine at 40k and felt guilty :oops:

I've never had a fuel problem. Only time I've had to bleed was doing the above filter change. 51k on the clocks now.

Any Liberty CRD owner who does not have a lift pump either does not know yet, has not made the time to do it yet, can't afford it yet, or believes the Governor of Illinois is innocent and the Tooth Fairy will install their lift pump for free.

I never had the performance associated issues with air in the fuel system but I did have a leak at the heater puck and a burnt fuel heater plug so switched the whole thing out for a Racor and have not had an issue since.

Well this is very telling.So far 66% of posters have had trouble with air in the filter 25 % have not and 7% have possibly avoided the problem with a LP. The numbers will probably even out a bit as more folks add their experiences but the suspicions of many of us have been confirmed; nearly twice as many have had trouble with the filter than not.

The 2 or 3 times that air needed to be purged were associated with low fuel in the tank and parking on an incline.

Had AIF issues added pump and replaced leaking head with redesigned mopar. No more problems.

I have had air in my fuel, but only when I also had an obstructed fuel filter. Changing the filter has fixed the problem each time...usually happens between 15 and 20 k miles on the filter. The symptoms are like you describe in your other post...runs for a bit and then stops suddenly. I've had it happen at highway speed.

Had problem, dealer fixed, fuel head now leaking.

I have a dealer installed lift pump, but my fuel head failed again and now air again.

Still under warrant so letting them fix it till its off.

I voted that it fixed the problem. However, I never had a problem with it not running. The prime button was always soft. I did a preemptive strike on the issue and felt that I didn't want to starve my injection pump like the cummins can. The button is always rock hard now. It was an ounce of prevention thing.

Nice way to categorize those that are not experiencing any problems (no problems with air here with 55k on the clock). I've changed the fuel filter around 4 or 5 times and never any issues........even with some periodic draining of the fuel filter, too.

Hey Hitler......are you gonna line those up that have no lift pump in their CRD's and end our lives on Christmas Eve......either execution style or are you gonna gas us in the chambers ?

I just changed the filter head and it runs like new again. But then I have the pre '05 filterunit, the one that worked.

PS: Moosemeat, is that your g/f you got there in your avatar?.......my avatar could do with such an upgrade! :lol:

I had the assembly replaced...first one to notice the fuel leaking thru the electrical connection...have had to purge once...have 56,000 miles. I will most likely resort to the in tank fuel pump in the very near future...

I think it's the cold weather we're having in th US coupled with the uncertainity of a lot of jobs

Being retired and on social security I don't worry about getting laid off :lol:
