OTOH look at some of the poor design (cost reduction) decisions made by Chrysler on our vehicle. Do you trust their choice of part?

This is what I was wondering, what parts did Chrysler chose over VM

Regardless of what VM put in the engine at their factory, and I'm sure the TB came pre-installed, we are still at the mercy of Chrysler as to what they supply as OEM replacement parts.

Incidentally Gates recommend replacing at 60,000 miles or 6 years

Well that makes sense, since the thicker belt will put stress on the other parts reducing their life span.

If this is the case then the tensioner is not doing it's job correctly

Just bought my first 05 CRD and pulled off the timing belt cover and it has a Goodyear belt on it. Does it come from the factory with a Goodyear belt? Guy I bought it from said it was changed at 90k and it now has 130k. Just wanted to inspect it for myself.

Thanks guys...
