Same old story - management screws the pooch and runs the company into the ground, employees on the factory floor end up paying the price.

This after 5 years ago, when the top 13 guys at DC voted to double their own salaries, costing the company an extra 50 million a year. Don't see any of them willing to take early retirement or a salary cut based on poor job performance.

They did bloody near the same thing with Freightliner 7 years ago. Allowed the then-CEO to make some questionable business deals and end up nearly bankrupting the company. He walked out the door with a hefty retirement package, the employees either got laid off or got a 5% pay cut and cut in benefits.

Guess I won't have to worry about getting the employee discount on a Dodge or Chrysler vehicle much longer.

Hate to say "Dillinger" from JeepsUnlimited was correct...but in the near future Chrysler will probably be a Mitsubishi run company with Mercedes as the other. After the US Citizens bailed out Chrysler back in the 1980s, they never learned thier lesson. Instead the CEO and Top Management gave themselves raises and retirement packages "knowing" that they would be cashing them in soon enuff.

DC will not be the only one in this boat if the others do not change. Products with built in problems (ie ball joints that are on recall every year), terrible warranty periods (ie 3/36,000), lack of customer support (ie not even giving more than a format answer to questions asked thru the website) and introducing models to just "fill a niche" without proper evalutaion (ie the Compass is just a ridiculous example of an unneeded vehicle).

I would bet I could pick out 5 people just on this forum that could come up with better ideas and a better vehicle line up than the one in place now. The problem is "they" just won't listen or pay attention to the obvious.

Good point Darby..and to add to what you said above....even if they do listen to the customer..it is often too late. A good example is GM. They brought back the Monte Carlo SS and what do they put in there....they put a 3.8L V-6 with 200hp. Now, that may not bother some...but it totally discredits the SS nametag. The Super Sport nametag meant V-8 muscle and performance under the hood....not a run-of-the-mill V-6. So, back in 2000/2001 on onward...everyone was complaining complaining that they wanted a V-8....it took GM until the 2006 model year to finally catch on and put a V-8 in the SS....well....at the same time they announced this...gas prices were at a record high..so people weren't rushing out to purchase gas guzzling V-8 power....again...a simple example of how the automakers screw up. The 5.3...while not in LS4 form...has been available for some time as a vortec model and they should have put the V-8 in there form the beginning.

Sad, but very true :( Maybe I'll be alive when there are no more auto manufacturers owned by American companies.

The wife and I are going Saturday to look at Honda Element 4x4 (weather may be a factor as snow is now in forcast) and if she likes it and we get the price we want for the Jeep, we will own our first Honda with 4 wheels.

This may be none too soon, depending on what happens to D/C. Wish that Honda and others had a car like the LX series cars from Chrysler

My wife's Honda Pilot has been in the shop 2 times for EGR replacement. They make great cars, but I've been dying to tell that since I joined this forum.

When the Element came out, I thought is was U G L Y, but as of late it has really started to grow on me. Good luck with the trade in.

I wanted her to look at the Element before we went to look at the CRD and she refused to even look at one, but I guess she has decided if it 4x4dr and rides like a car, and has water proof seats and rubber floor and would better suite her lifestyle of spill everything she drinks or eats in the car.

Isn't it amazing how a little car shopping raises the stress level in your life? At times I wonder what is more painful, working with the CRD issues or finding a replacement. I would rather spend 2 hours in the dentist chair than find another car.

How's this for Karma - I traded in my very reliable, fun, and VERY useful 2004 Galapagos Green Honda Element EX for this Jeep. What a long term loss of money this has turned out to be. I had the perfect fleet - a Toyota and a Honda - but I wanted to give the American car makers 1 last chance and I was swayed by the diesel. :(

The Element had a factory 270 watt stereo - best factory system I'd ever heard. The 4x4 engaged seamlessly in the snow and ice automatically, and after the little 4 banger was broken in, it really hauled booty. My son still asks me where his Element car went... I had a nice bruch guard, bug shield, and tail light guards on it and what really sucks is that the resale value today (18 months later) is still the same as what I traded it in for.

A Honda is like money in the bank - I'd say go for it! My ONLY problem with the Element was that the total cargo capacity was only 675lbs. After my accessories it was down to about 500lbs. After fuel, about 400lbs. I weigh about 300lbs, so the GVWR of the Element was exceeded whenever I had any other people in it, let alone cargo. It still drove fine, just was over the numbers all the time...

Not sure I remember anymore! :D

I did finally buy a camper that the Jeep can pull that the Honda never could, but heck, that cost me even more money! :P

Seriously, I wanted a more HD vehicle for work to do my construction inspections. I was also smitten by the diesel. And finally, I wanted more weight carrying capacity as the cargo, passenger, fuel, and accessory weight limit is only 675 lbs total in the Element.

But hindsight being 20/20, I could have lived quite happily with the Element.

...put me in a Honda.

Funny you guys are talking about Honda's. I was thinking about getting something different and Honda immediately came to mind. I kind of like the Accord but don't know about the room. I've heard the I-4 in the Accord is pretty good. At any rate, just thinking right now.

It must be a personal defect of mine, but I always get the "itch" for something new. :)

Honda isn't even on my radar until they start putting diesels in.

There are other articles out there...this is just the first one I found.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/200 ... htm?csp=34

Also check out www.honda.co.uk they already make diesels.

I think there are enough automakers with plans for diesels in the US that now it is just a matter of time. I will say it again. The Diesels Are Coming.

Just hang in there.

I dont know how much you can trust leftlanenews but here's some more

I read that likely buyers would be a French auto firm or a Chinese auto firm. So if the French buy it Jeep has gone full circle.

In a matter of speaking. Jeep saved their ars, and they are so appreciative, they are going to buy the thing. Time will tell.

Well, I don't know. I like my 2004 Buick, and maybe they will put on the H3 factory warranty. Probably not huh?
