Post subject:  About to pull the trigger and buy a CRD!!! Help me out...

Hi there,

Long time off-roader and Land Rover owner. I'm sick and tired of filling up my Discovery for $90 at the pump 2-3 times a week... As it stands now the only light duty diesel powered SUV available is the CRD. Love it! Killer little machine! I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on buying this one tomorrow.

Can you guys give me some advice on things I should have them do/check before I pull the trigger? My plan is to tell them I'll buy it at the list price but this needs checked, replaced, Etc....and beat them in getting some freebies. I have no experience with these hands-on so I'm not sure what kind of things to bring up with them that may be common knowledge to you all.

I'll have lots to contribute once I get her and begin building! Gonna build a Eco-friendly Vegi-Diesel powered destination vehicle out of it! D44 up front, coil overs, 3-4" of lift, camping kit, roof rack..... It's gonna be a blast!

Many thanks and kind regards.

Post subject:  2006 Price

I bought a 2006 limited with 25k on it for just under 17k. No real options other than a limited. Bought a hitch for 125, and a wiring harness for 100 to make the tow package. Now it has everything I want. I think they want a little much for it. The long warranty would be nice, but its only good if they actually know how to work on a CRD which is unlikely. Just food for thought.

i would be cautious, i got my CRD one owner 33K miles for 17K... and
the person selling mine knew that it was diesel... this one is listed as a
gasoline fuel type in the ad

Our crd is a 2005 with 22k. It's a sport, sunroof , tow package, Balance Of total 7/70 vehicle and powertrain No dents scratches or repaints real clean picked it up for
$16,500. The fuel head was leaking, so I made them replace it . Also got the dealer to throw 3 fuel and 3 mopar oil filters in the deal, And a FULL Tank of fuel, of course.

I'd pull the trigger , There are a couple little quirks with this little monster. But none that can't be fixed with a little elbow grease and help from this forum.

I'd allmost guarantee that when the quirks and mods are fixed , This is the best Darn
little Suv out there. Hands Down, And I'm a GM guy Well Sorta I own One of the best Diesel truck on the road, Cummins.
I wouldn't buy it at list price, seems pricey.

Set your Crosshairs Carefully , And Squeeze the trigger My Friend.

Looks like a nice Jeep, but you're paying extra for the warranty. Which you will invalidate with your lift/veg oil plans. Please don't have any illusions about getting your CRD to run on SVO/WVO. The fuel system does not tolerate fuel at the temperature you need it to run veg oil.

See if it is listed on Autotrader as well. That is where I found mine last year.

Highly suggest you read the fine print on that warranty. It is not a Chrysler warranty. Many hoops to jump through and changing your own oil is a no-no.

Was going to ask about that, I was also under the impression as well that these were very bad engines for SVO/WVO applications...

FYI - the 2 major issues

1st - air in the fuel - causes hard starting & so other problems - it's a vacuum system so no real good checks - although if you pull the fuel heater plug and it's leaking out - then you know it's pulling air in. (stock replacement is ~$150 and 2 bolts and bleeding the system - better fix is Racor - but requires some wiring).

2nd - oil from the CCV blows into the air intake - not a short term issue - figure 1oz/ thousand miles - but add that over 100,000 miles and you have a gallon and a half of oil spread through your intake. - search EHM or Provent.

You need to read this post first:

Most of us don't do the EGR or the torque converter and are quite happy with our little jeeps. It's a long list, but don't be scared. Take a mod at a time and you'll be running fine in no time
