A little over a month ago, I got the F37 recall done along with other various warranty repairs (time part of warranty was ending). I know...why did I have it done? I sort of felt like I was forced into get it done, since I have plenty of drivetrain warranty and CSC left. (I only have about 22K miles on it.) Anyway, I could really use some help and input on this problem.....I now have a vibration after the torque converter locks up at about 50MPH and continues to at least 70MPH. The vibration starts exactly when it locks an seems to fully go away when it unlocks. If I accelerate after the lock (apply torque), but not too much as to downshift, this vibration continues to increase in intensity. It is a droning, low pitched, humming vibration. Very annoying while I maintain speed on the highway. I'm sure this is not right. (BTW I did not have this vibration before the recall.)

I did take it back to the dealer last week. They called me back the next day and more or less told me 'no problem found/normal'. When I realized he wasn't joking, I asked if the tech would go for a ride with me in the morning. He said yes. Went there in the morning and the tech wasn't there, he was in class. They sent another tech with me, he did notice the vibration, but wouldn't say much about it. Left it there the rest of the day, they installed another intercooler hose (unrelated) and called me later to tell me it was done. However, nothing else was done with the trans. I will be calling the service manager on Wed or Thur.

The repair order says that I got the flashes, converter, filters and fluid... no pump. I checked the fluid level...looks good, but I will double check it again after I get to work in the morning.

So...Did anyone else have this? Ideas? Fixes (from the dealer for now, not Suncoast)? Did anyone go thru multiple F37 converters? Maybe its bad out of the box. Or...could it be because I didn't get the pump?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

I have the same vibrations so I work around it now with a little extra pedal. At 61 the 2nd lock happens and now I can back it down to 57 and its happy. But going up any incline at low 50's the vibrations are there :(

This vibration continues into the second lock. It constantly increases with throttle, past that first lock up. If I let off the throttle, the vibration lessens but is still quite noticable. I certainly would have noticed this vibration if it was there before the F37.

They are notorious for underfilling the tranny after the F37. Check it when it's good and hot, idling in park.

Yes. I have read that in an old thread here. I had intended on checking the level when I arrived at work this morning, but I forgot. I will definetly check it when I arrive at work in the morning. Thanks.

Any more ideas?

I also have drivetrain vibration that is most noticeable after lockup. Mine was never recalled for F37 but it was a late build (March 06) so I assume F37 was already incorporated. The vibration is most noticeable with O/D locked out so 3rd gear lockup occurs at 40 mph indicated. Vibration is worse with heavier throttle. With O/D not locked out it shifts into 4th at 35 mph indicated and I can still feel the vibration from about 40 to 50 mph. There is still vibration when 4th locks at 54 mph but not as pronounced. Since the vibration seems to be less (but still there) when the T/C is not locked up I'm beginning to think it originates in the engine??? I did put in the Suncoast T/C but not the Transgo shift kit. That made no difference in the drivetrain vibration.

Sorry I don't have any idea what is causing it but I wanted to add to the database

BTW when I put in the Suncoast I replaced the filters in the xmission so it was empty of fluid. When I refilled, it showed full on the dipstick after 8 qts of ATF+4. When I encountered hesitation and slippage I rechecked the fluid level and found it low. I eventually added 4 more qts for a total of twelve before it finally stabilized. Must have been air trapped in the system.

Thanks. I'll play with the OD button on the way home from work today and see if that changes anything.

Just in case guys, have you read the lift pump threads, does any of that stuff sound familiar.

Yes, I have read those threads before and will probably do the in tank version in the summer. But, I don't think this vibration has anything to do with fuel. This vibration starts right when the converter locks around 5o MPH and stops when it drops out (of OD). It does stop when I turn off OD (althou, every once in a while, I almost detect a little something at lower speeds too, but maybe I am just overanlyizing a bit). I swear it did not do this before the stupid recall. I keep forgetting to check the fluid level when it's good and hot. I will try to remember to check it when I get to work in the morning. I'm hoping it's just low on fluid.

I thought you were supposed to measure with it idling in NEUTRAL. My readings are "higher" in park than in neutral...

If you havent already, checkout gmctd's thread on his suncoast TC install within months of F37, to me, this pretty much lets you know what to expect, even with F37, check out the OEM upgraded bits removed, pretty shocking stuff really. Good pictures and write up.
