That's the Hemi version that Suncoast uses to make our TCC - Ron sez it has the plastic stator, also, so I passed on it - at that price, thought about buying it to cut open for show'n'tell - I did get a new pump and new front cover\seal, and a new p\s pump for my truck from that guy.

Yes, though thats still $125 that you would just be cutting up.

Knowledge costs..........greater knowledge hath greater cost.................

'Sides, unlike Humpty Dumpty, only takes one of the king's horses and one of the king's men to put it back together, again..........if said horseman has a arc wrench!

Can't we just call up Suncoast and get them to take some pictures of the components before assembly? Seems more sensible than spending money tearing up a perfectly good part.

There are pics of the internals in my post, incl shattered plastic stator, but not the proprietary CNC-machined stator that Suncoast created for us.

Torque converters have worked the same way for many years. Buy a book, it's cheaper. It's a Mopar part so it is just good enough to get by.

True, but books aren't always the be all-end all solution - to wit:

I converted my '89 6.2L GMC to an EFI 6.5TD engine, staying with the oem T400 3spd auto trans - the 6.2, 400, 454 all used the same T400 and D4 torque convertor quite efficiently - however, the turbo'ed 6.5L was way more than the D4 could handle, so the stall speed went way up - was like driving the old Buick Dynaflow, with engine flare at any event, no fuel mileage - the D4 was GM's most agressive t\c for the T400, and had no lockup - woe is me, what to do, what to do?

So, I waltzed meself into the local T\C house, collared the Owner\Boss, tole 'im what I needed, and he said same thing: D4 is it, for the T400 - aksed 'im if I could do a walk-about, get some ideas, so we proceeded - I knew what the D4 internals looked like so wasn't long B4 ole eagle eyes spotted a likely prospect, which he identified as the upgraded t\c for the Dodge Torqueflyte with the Cummins engine - were some slight differences, but more similarities, to which he informed me that it was made by the same company that made the GM D4 - diameter, depth, turbine, impeller, stator had obvious differences due to the Torqueflyte input shaft and stuff, but very similar - aksed 'im if this couldn't be altered here, changed there, reworked back here, etc, to which he replied affirmatively - he mentioned many GM wrecker drivers had inquired along those lines, but he hadn't spent any time investigating it, being the Boss, and all - week later I had my super-vertor, real aggressive hookup, stall speed just off idle, acted like it was in lockup - soon developed same problems the Dodge dudes were having: T400 trans ran unbelievably hot - put a dual-probe in\out guage on the 'cooler lines and it was steaming - aux cooler didn't help, as greatest temp increase was at idle at stop in DRIVE - thus, the technique of shifting to NEUTRAL at every stop became a necessity - really had to stand on the brakes to keep the big rig fully stopped, in any gear.

Anyways, I did mention that books don't always have the answers, right?

I still have the one I got when I got F37ed. It has about 5k on it. Just been to lazy to send it back to suncoast for my $75 core. You could have it for the core charge plus shipping.

Me, too - don't know that he needs them - we get the upgraded Hemi version so nothing outta ours is used - maybe that's why he only charges 50bucks core

Guess I got took cause I have the reciept with $75 core charge on it. Maybe that extra $25 was for answering all the phone calls before I decided to purchase the beast. At any rate I'd do it again extra $25 and all.

Please keep asking Questions.
You guys went somewhere I never even thought of.
Growing up, I took apart my mother's dishwasher to find out how it worked, the unexpected benefit was being asked to not touch the dishwasher.

Ahhh......may be partially my fault - we were discussing disposition vis a vis the returned core situation, where they only charged 50bucks core charge and weren't seeing the cores come back - core charge on the big stuff is up to 600bucks - I said 50bucks barely covers shipping from Houston, so it's prolly not worth the hassle, where increased charge would insure prompt return - I was thinking more around 200bucks would do it

75bucks sorta tells me that whatever is reusable in the CRD version is prolly not very expensive if purchased new - one (rather, two) reason I got the super-vertor for my GMC so inexpensively (95bucks) was I gave him one D3 and one D4 t\c, both of which were in high demand for rebuilt, plus the one D4 victim up for modification - that, and I was the guinea pig for some show'n'tell

Noticed you still haven't updated your post in the CRD TECH forum, Steve - suggestion: edit your post to remove the stuff that's there now, then add your ECM and TCM data for the record - makes it easier to correlate the data to the Jeep\owner, right?
