That's good news (taken with a grain of salt of course). A company in Arizona is working on a similar process using algae. Once the oil is extracted the process is the same as using WVO. They are trying to engineer strains of algae that produce a maximum amount of oil while still keeping the the plant strong and viable. I think we are still years from seeing it available at a pump anywhere, but with skyrocketing fuel prices there is a lot of motivation to bring a eco-friendlier to market as soon as possible. Cool that it past ASTM testing and even cooler that they are using a Liberty for a test bed.
The best thing about this whole algae angle is that it doesn't require arable land to grow. There's lots of desert around here that isn't crop worthy, but would be ideal for an algae farm.
