Interesting press release, but like any good press file... It's long on hype and short on details. I'm interested (as I'm sure most of us would be) but I'm looking for the steak to go with that sizzle. Where can it be bought? When?

How about opportunities for enterprising lunatics to process the stuff ourselves? I love that it can even be fed the waste glycerol, as I can think of a LOT of potential feedstock available if I start making WVO biodiesel again... But where's the beef?

Now that's cool. Fill me up. It has to be better than my home brew BD made from nasty french fry oil and sometimes a few dead mice.

That's good news (taken with a grain of salt of course). A company in Arizona is working on a similar process using algae. Once the oil is extracted the process is the same as using WVO. They are trying to engineer strains of algae that produce a maximum amount of oil while still keeping the the plant strong and viable. I think we are still years from seeing it available at a pump anywhere, but with skyrocketing fuel prices there is a lot of motivation to bring a eco-friendlier to market as soon as possible. Cool that it past ASTM testing and even cooler that they are using a Liberty for a test bed.

The best thing about this whole algae angle is that it doesn't require arable land to grow. There's lots of desert around here that isn't crop worthy, but would be ideal for an algae farm.

Many labs are looking at vertical growth algae systems instead of taking up massive plots of land. It looks like it has promise.

I never thought of that. It makes sense though. You could get way more yield on a smaller foot print that way. Let's hope this pans out.
