I will assume the J8 has a stand alone TCM like our Liberties do.
Questions I have:
1) Am I correct on the Stand Alone J8 TCM?
2) Is the J8 TCM at all compatible or did Chrysler go to some new protocol?
3) If it is compatible, does it have the same problems as the CRD which has with the Fed-37ed Syndrome.
4) If it will work, what will it cost?

Inquiring Minds want to know :)

The J8 TCM won't work on the KJ for many reasons:

*J8/JK uses the NGCIV TCM, the KJ uses the EATX TCM
*Jx is entirely CAN based, EATX is for J1850 architecture
*F37 has no bearing on Jx applications, they used the new T/C that is now available for sale here (GDE posted the P/N, I don't have it handy) with the engine rated at 460Nm for JK, 400Nm for J8
*CAN protocol isn't the same between applications since Jx is newer and uses more messages not available in KJ architecture.
*Trans should be the same (I don't personally know of any internal differences)

So we ave no way to upgrade our TCM to shift at an optimum speed until someone cracks the TCM encryption or someone comes up with an aftermarket TCM that will plug and play and work.

The only real option is for someone to start tuning the TCM just as they are the ECU.

If I were a KJ owner, I would be looking for someone to make an announcement about this in the near future (it will be coming...)

Making all new encoder rings for the ABS sensors and having the body computer re-calibrated.

I own an index head used to make old fashion spur gears.
I could then make 4 encoder ring blanks and cut the closest number to 10% (better yet 11.5%) more slots for each wheel.
Then drive my CRD using my GPS as a speedometer, figure out the error and pay a Dealer to re-calibrate my Speedo.
Instead of shifting into 5th lock at 63MPH it would shift at 57MPH with 10% more slots.
Having someone such as GDE do it as a package deal with a ECM tune would be be the best solution and a lot less work than a mechanical solution.
