One of the hoses runs across the head as a pipe, and it's easy to see. But where's the other? After a lot of craning with a flashlight, I still can't find it. I don't even know where to look.

Anyone? Anyone have pictures?

There are 4 hoses involved. See picture #3 at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=74594

Two hoses between the EGR cooler and the EGR; a hose from the block to the cooler; and that hose that goes to the top front of the engine.

All standard heater hose although if you have to replace the two small ones you might have to get a bit longer pieces to avoid kinks if you cannot find prebent at a reasonable price

Ok. Thanks. Mine is so sooted up you can't see anything, since it leaks exhaust out of the pipe that comes around the back of the motor. And, there's some tiny oil leak, which has captured a ton of soot, as well. Everything is just caked horribly.

It's my intention to just remove the EGR completely. But what I was looking to do was unhook it to see if that's where my water is going.

AS papaindigo stated, there are four hoses, two large ones 5/8 heater hoses going to the EGR cooler, and two small ones that cool the EGR valve itself. If you disconnect the both big ones, the small ones are out of the picture. Before doing away with my EGR and coolant lines, I used regular old Gates 3/8 fuel line hose for the small ones as it is rated for a much higher pressure than your cooling system will ever see if you want to retain them.

As to doing away with the EGR cooling lines completely, I could not get to the one going into the side of the block as it is way up under the intake side and would require removing several things to get to it. Instead, I just cut and plugged the rubber hose going to the block. The other one comes up and goes across the top of the motor to a "Y" connection just above the thermostat. I removed the "Y" and used a connector to connect the hoses back together. I then removed the metal pipe going across the the top of the motor and all associated hoses on the EGR. One day I will go back and plug the block connection.

Once you blank off the EGR, you really need to remove the flow plate in FCV so it will not cause problems with the EGR gone. :D

Removal is the best thing you can do. The pipe that goes around the back of the engine goes to the exhaust manifold. Remove it at the manifold and cut it about 2 inches long, weld it shut and install the 2 inch line to the manifold. Remove the EGR and cooler assy. Block off the intake elbow. Run a new heater hose from the top of the engine to the head (where the EGR cooler went to).

Start enjoying a less problem free engine.

Good luck

Or just remove the FCV.

If you completely remove the EGR and FCV, do you have to leave them plugged up to keep the OBC happy? If not, I agree and I will eventually remove both items as you suggested since neither one of them no longer are functioning.

Once the EGR is blocked off or removed, this hose is no longer necessary, just plug it on both ends... :)
