Does anybody have a copy of this "mystery" TSB? I did a search and I can't find it on this website.

My dealer reflashed me with this one last week after I told him she idled like a garbage truck with the A/C running.

What a DIFFERENCE! My wife and son both commented on the the engine being much quiter and smoother throughout the power band.

All I can say is where has this TSB been hiding? Mine is a February 2005 production and it has been rattling and shaking for well over a year. This one brought a smile to everyone in the family. We can even hear the radio - wow! It's almost as smooth as our TDI!

SUBJECT:
Flash: Improved Driveability And Erroneous DTC's
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Engine
Control Module
(ECM) with new software.
MODELS:
2005 (KJ) Cherokee (International Markets)
NOTE: This bulletin applies to Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 2.8L diesel
engine
(sales code ENR) built before February 13, 2005 (MDH 0213XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience one of more of the following driveability and/or
erroneous
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's).
Driveability conditions:
. Hesitation during light throttle acceleration.
. Engine surge at low speed steady-state operation.
. Driveline vibration under light load.
. Glow plug/lamp duration too short on cold start.
Erroneous DTC's:
. P0087 - Fuel Rail Pressure Malfunction Pressure Too Low.
. P0093 - Fuel Rail Pressure Malfunction Maximum Positive Deviation.
. P0101 - MAF Sensor Signal Deviation Faults.
. P0234 - Boost Pressure Sensor Negative Deviation.
. P0299 - Boost Pressure Sensor Positive Deviation.
. P0300 - Misfire Detected.
. P0401 - EGR Solenoid Circuit Negative Deviation.
. P0402 - EGR Solenoid circuit Positive Deviation.
. P0513 - SKIM System Faults.
. P0560 - ECM Voltage Too High Or Too Low.
NUMBER: 18-007-05

. P0564 - Speed Control Switch #1 Signal Circuit Faults.
. P0585 - Speed Control Plausibility Between Sw #1 and #2.
. P0589 - Speed Control Switch #2 Signal Circuit Faults.

. P2296 - Fuel Pressure Solenoid Short Circuit.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (DRBIII®) and the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures,
verify all engine
systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present record them on the
repair order
and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this service
bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition,
perform the
Repair Procedure.

CH6000A Scan Tool (DRBIII®)
CH7000A/7001A J1962 Cable with red DRBIII® connector
ITIL/ISIS PC
NOTE: An updated J1962 cable has been released. This cable has a red colored
connector at the DRBIII® connection. Use this cable whenever a flash is
being performed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLES USING DRBIII®:
NOTE: Whenever a controller is programmed, the software in the DRBIII®; must
be
programmed with the latest revision level available.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be
restarted and
then follow the directions on the DRBIII®.
1. Before beginning the reprogramming procedure, remove any old flash
reprogramming
files from the DRBIII® memory. To clear the memory from the MAIN MENU:
a. Simultaneously press the "MORE" and "YES" keys.
b. A screen will appear requesting a "COLD BOOT".
c. Follow the on screen instructions by selecting the "F4" key.
d. When the DRBIII® reboots to the MAIN MENU, proceed to Step #2
2. With the ignition switch in the "RUN" position, determine the original
part number of the
ECM currently in the vehicle. Using the DRBIII® select:
a. "DRBIII® Standalone"
b. "1998 - 2005 Diagnostics"

c. "All (Except Below)"
d. "Engine"
e. "Module Display"
f. Record the "ECM part #" on the repair order for later reference.
g. Disconnect the DRBIII® from the vehicle.
h. Connect the DRBIII® to the ITIL/ISIS PC and NULL modem cable.
3. Log into DealerCONNECT. Proceed to: Service / Repair - Flash.
4. Select vehicle Year, Model, and Engine. Then select the "Submit" button
at the bottom
of the screen.
5. Compare calibration part number available to the module part number
recorded
earlier. Select the new calibration if applicable.
6. Download the new calibration to the PC.
7. Using the "DRBIII - WINFLASH II" application on the PC, download the
flash
calibration file to the DRBIII® from the PC.
8. Disconnect the DRBIII® from the PC and NULL modem cable.
9. Open the hood, install a battery charger and verify that charging rate
provides
approximately 13.5 volts.
10. Connect the DRBIII® to the vehicle.
11. Turn the ignition to the "Run" position (engine not running).
12. Download the flash from the DRBIII® to the vehicle. Using the DRBIII®
select:
a. "Vehicle Flash"
b. Follow the directions on the DRBIII® screen. When the flash process is
complete,
proceed to the next step.
NOTE: Due to the ECM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other
modules
(TCM, BCM, MIC, SKIM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's
may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules using "Module Scan",
record the DTC's, and erase these DTC's prior to returning the vehicle to
the
customer. Erase any DTC's in the ECM only after all other modules have had
their DTC's erased.
NOTE: The following step is required by law.
13. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label"

Thank you Old Navy!!!
I was curious what this TSB was about.
This TSB helped my vehicle a lot. Their driveability issues section sounded like they were describing my KJ - before flash. Much better now.

One thing I was wondering is where did your dealer come up with this TSB? It is a fossil compared to the other TCM/ECM updates.

I have no idea why the dealer chose this TSB except they were reading false error codes (DTC's). I suspect the EGR valve they replaced waspart of the root cause for this.

All I know is the thing sure runs better than it did with it's original February 2005 build engine operating software.

Hmm, my 06 with a build date of 01-06 has the same sort of behavior with the A/C on. It seems to idle quite a bit rougher. I am taking mine in for the 18-023-06 TSB this Thursday. Hopefully this will clear up a lot of what I have been experiencing. My trans has been bucking at 35mph under lite accelleration and between 55-65. I also have vibration in the drivetrain too..but I am pretty sure that is just wheel balancing because it is still present even when I take my foot off the go pedal and it is only present at highway speeds above 65 or 70mph.

One thing to consider is DC's computer does not know sotfware by TSB number. They plug you in and download whatever software is most current. You may want to present a copy of 18-023-06 to your service manager and ask if this is what they used. If so, they need to update your paperwork and the sticker under the hood. It's legally required and explained in the TSB.

This complaint has been on my short list for several months, was told by DC that it will be corrected by 18-023-06. The lurch/hesitation you are feeling @ 35 mph is the TC clutch going into lock-up in 3rd gear as soon as you are done accelerating. I would assume yours is like mine where if you accelerate past 35, you don't feel it. Funny, the harder you drive this Jeep, the smoother it shifts. Baby the thing, and it starts acting stupid.

I have never been a big fan of DC, but I am a Die-hard Diesel fanatic, so with that said, I want to show that I will be one of those guys that will buy Diesel when it is offered. I like my CRD, and so does everyone who has driven it. My only remaining complaint with the tranny now is this early TC lock-up, more of a annoyance than anything. I am watching the various postings to see how well 18-023-06 does with this problem. I hate to start the dealer service cycle again when mine is running as well as it has been lately. I will probably get it done when I take it back in a couple of months for the LBJ recall. And yes, dealer told me they will have to replace the LBJ's again despite replacing them in June because the new joints are a different part. They did ask if I would mind waiting as my front end is still tight, new joints are short supply, and they are swamped with LBJ replacements.
