Yeah, I'm one of those nasty contractors everybody loves to hate. I like the cb antennae there cuz I just lift the hood and stick it to the inside of the fender when I'm not wheeling so it is out of the way. The CB itself is held in place with double sided tape (loctite of course) and it has never so much as bounced.

Yes you have to have the permit and they only sell yearly permits for some reason. The majority of the people that use the area are people going out fishing. The permit costs $90 for a day permit (6am-12PM) or $110 for the 24 hour pass. You have to have a shovel, boards to put under your tires in case you get stuck, a jack that will lift your tire at least 1 foot out of the sand, a tire pressure guage and a tow strap. If they stop you on the beach and ask to see the items and you dont have any, you can get fined for each item you are missing.

What beaches in Jersey allow vehicle access? How do you get the permits? Is it required that you are a resident of a specific town?

Island Beach State Park offers Year Round and 3-Day passes during the summer/early fall season. Be sure to check their website for the 11 point checklist of stuff you need. Besides that, many beaches offer off-season (usually labor day to memorial day) access, each with their own unique set of rules. Just google off road nj beaches or something, and you will find all the info.
