Here are mine pictures of the TJ bumper conversion. Sorry about the tire under Jeep, working on the rear bumper and thats were it landed.

Here is what I ended up with. I did make a choice of whether or not I wanted room for a winch, I decided not to. But I can easily make the change to fit a winch if I want to.
Image

I flipped the bumper upsidedown and used part of the mounting bracket on the bumper. I cut off the 2 pressed bolts on either end. Here you can see the hitches coming throught from the sub frame. These are welded in a few spots, going to finish that when I get some time and someone to help with the welding.
Image

This is a closer look at the "front skid" if you want to call it that, that I made. Its held on in the front by two pins and rests inside the engine skid. I did it this way for easy removal when I need to do an oil change. Right now I am just testing to if this would work, so far so good. I am going to trim the pins so they are not so long if this is the set up I stay with.

some more of the front skid

The bottom bracket attached to the bumper is just 2 inch flat steel bolted on in one place on the bumper and bolted between the stock tow hooks and the frame of the jeep.

Why did you make the front skid curve out, just curious. When I made mine 4 years ago or so I curved it back in so I could pull up closer to rocks etc and not hit anything. Just wondered what the reasoning was ?

Thanks

Curved it out mainly for looks. The metal is not very thick so if clearance was an issue I would either take it off of bend crap out of it. My front is from an 03. But I am pretty sure that the wrangler rear bumper didnt change much over the 90's. But I am not an authority on wranglers.

I checked where I got my bumper from and it is a 97-06 model so it looks like the front Fabtech bumpers for TJs are all the same. The bumper wen up $50.99 in price too, but it still has free shipping.

97-06 TJ fronts and rears are all interchangeable, the one I have is from an '06, the one I sold yodejt for his rear is off a '97, exactly the same.

yeah price usually goes up when someone finds somethin cool to do with it :P

good lookin bumpers guys

Wonder how a tranny skid chopped up with brackets welded on skinned in diamond or just sheet would work for the engine to bumper skid

Also like to see how you are bolting them on better, I know how many bolts and how tough the ARBs are. So just wondering if these would be half as tough. Hate to have to hook on one someday and see it flying through the air

I bolted mine on with 4 grade 8 bolts on top through the upper cross member and I used 4 of the existing mount points from the tow hooks for the bottom. I also made a 1/4" thick steel plate for each side and the upper bolts run through those and they act as extra surface load to spread out on. I have winched myself up a 4 foot rock, had a CJ8 literally get a running start and yank my jeep off a log and had countless other recoveries with it. It has never budged in the slightest bit.

Inc I knew yours would be bolted and attached very well!

Just curious on others as to what they were doing
