Post subject:  Rear Sway Bar Controversy

Hi, I'll start this newbie section off. I've read about taking off the rear sway bar to keep both wheels on the ground or better reach I think it's called while going over obstacles. Everybody states that its safe to do. No one mentions the function of the rear sway bar though? If it wasn't needed, Why did the put it there in the first place?Anyone?- :?:

the big controversy is with removing the FRONT swaybar. removing the rear is not that big of a deal (just take it easy until you are completely sure about how your liberty will handle)

removing the front appears to cause some bad ju-ju due the to the fact the front is ifs. i think removing the front can allow some nasty camber changes

Removing any swaybar will adversely affect cornering and possibly safety.

In my personal view, neither swaybar--particuarly the front--should ever be removed while driving in routine conditions.

Not sure but I suspect at least one aftermarket company manufactures aftermarket bars that replace the oe, can be "detached" at the trainhead and "re-attached" (after some mighty struggling) for the ride home.

Worth some research I guess.

nobody sells disconnects for the KJ...you could make your own but there is a lot of liability...The rear sway bar is fine to remove-I have had mine off for a month and notice no difference in handle. Probably because of the solid axle. The front is a different story though.
