So after reading what I wrote you still don't think its that bad
why did I waste my time writing that out?
Sure go for 32's, WANT TO BUY A SET SO I CAN GO BACK TO A KJ WITH SOME POWER AND FUEL MILEAGE????
Also still have tires sitting here you say you want but then talking others
I give up :banghead:

I'm running 32s with 3.73s without any problems at all. My 4.0 TJ pulls 'em like a freight train.

Is there a thread that discusses how OD effects mpg? I plan on taking it on vacation this summer and will anything to increase fuel economy. Crappy gas mileage is the only complaint I have with the Liberty.

treadwright still hasn't started making that size in that pattern again.

I might be able to get a set of 265/75s from a local place that is going out of business for

$5 A TIRE!

and by that bad I meant mpgs, you said you can still get 20mpg highway. that is OK to me.

my old exploder got 16mpg highway on a good day.

Interesting story with those retreads, sorry a bit off topic.

Had a guy that bought a set of Dualers about 2 years ago and has the lifetime balance and rotate, well he did not want to pay full price for new tires and have to but the lifetime package again so he sent his tires to treadwright to be re-treaded.His plan was to have new tread and the same DOT #'s so we could not refuse to rotate and balance them for free, well it backfired badly since the tread he got was the BFG AT design and nothing like the original tread and the fact that 2 of the tires required 40oz+ each to balance, the other 2 took over 30oz to balance and he was charged for the service.Took me almost 3 hours(I was pissed) to balance them since his rims required tape weights, that was on monday, not a good day to be around me.

Voodoo never mind
if you read I can pull 20 MPGs but have to use it with the OD off at 65 to maintain speed without shifting etc. I for one don't like running like that all of the time.
But whatever trips your trigger.

Come up and you can swap mine for your tires for a drive and see how you like them. Of course there will be a 1000 dollar refundable fee to make sure you come back and not leave me with junkie tires and wheels

365-75s OK Larry :ROTFL:

previous post fiks'd

265s

mine never shifts between 60 and 75, when I nail the cruise at 65 it almost never shifts, unless I'm on a really looong hill.

when OD is off it is in the same RPM band as before...

not sure what the difference here is.

explain

and that makes you get bad gas mileage?

because it shifts constantly?

No, well, yes, if I try to use OD it shifts constantly which is varying the RPM so badly that you press harder on the skinny pedal to make up for it. When it does stick in OD you are actually bogging it down which means you press harder on the skinny pedal which makes it downshift again. Mine is a drastic example but the larger tires (yes, even 31" ) affect the FINAL gearing which affects ALL the gears, even in town, so mileage (mpg) suffers everywhere. So The next big money item is 4.10's

45RFe vs 42RLE,different gear ratios between the 2 trans.

And why a 42RLE KJ will have more problems(IE lack of power) with stock gears and 32" tires as the 42RLE's gear ratio's are higher then the 45RFE's.The lower gear ratio's in the 45RFE offer a slightly better feel but at the cost of mpg's due to higher rpm's but keeps the engine better in it's power band also.

I think I will go with 265/70s

still waiting for the guy at the tire shop to call back though,

$5 a tire is something I cannot pass, even at the expense of bad mileage, I'll use my tire money for gears! but if he doesn't have a tread/tire I like (off road tread or BFGs)
I will bite the bullet and pay full price for 265/70s

I don't think folks appreciate how much tire weight impacts performance.

I do............ It makes a measurable difference. That's why I run a "P" rated tire on both Jeeps. The Dodge gets a Load E because of the towing.

Load E tires are only for serious enthusiasts. I get 21 mpg.

Because it is not running in that sweet spot every engine has. They are sit to run a certain rpm at a certain speed, more or less. So stock yours may of ran best at say 65 at 2100 RPMs. ( just examples) Now you go and install oversize tires. At 65 you are now running at 1850 RPM and the engine is lugging going down the road, any little hill it shifts down, its already not running smoothly and now it has to keep shifting to try and maintain a good RPM. So bad on the trans/ bad gas mileage/and way down on power
Real simple really
