I had reserves this weekend and got there a day early to run some errands. I ended up getting everything done quickly and went to a nearby junk yard and got the air filter box complete with deflector for only $20!!!!!! THANK GOD FOR JUNK YARDS

I have run almost 20k with out my deflector and have little to no water build up in the box or on the filter. I also have a spare 02 airbox with the mini snorkle for sale asking 30 plus shipping cost. Just one small issue with it though it has a small 1/8" crack in the inlet of the snorkle. If anyone wants it just PM i might be able to get a few more in a week or 2. :D

read through this thread. A lot of good info, and a lot of info reitterated. Could probably use a little cleaning up to the basic info by a mod.

Anyway from what I'm reading it sounds like this is pretty much just a mod to keep the water/dirt out of the box and off the filter. Is there any real performance to be had here? Seems with using the same filter not really. Are there any open air style set ups or freer flowing intakes available?

THere are no pre-built free flowing intakes avalible for the CRD since the intake is located in such a bad spot. As for the it just keep dirt and water out those are both true but there is a slight improvement in power and turbo spool up.

I don't recall a photo recap of the install, only some photos of the two boxes side by side and a comparison of the two air inputs and snorkels. Really nothing on the install itself.

Being visual myself I understand your pain and thought about phtographing the install but it turned out being so simple photos were not required. Here are the steps if it helps.

> I recalled that a couple of people damaged the lid a little by folding it bac so I pulled the whole air box lid off which was pretty easy to do, just loosen the output hose clamp and remove the plug to the MAF sensor...for some reason I really didn't need to do this part since that plug seems to unplug itself all the time.

Well I'm still not convinced that you can get more air going through several 90 degree turns using an 02 or 03 air box.

I did this a while back mainly because my stock cone thingamajig wouldn't stay seated into the box. I can't say much for performance as I have other problems going on, but the "work" takes 5 minutes once you convince yourself that all the screws are out and you just have to PULL.
