Fuel mileage - 1st tankful

Went 344 miles on 17.6 gallons, for approx. 19.5 mpg. Probably 85% in-town driving, short trips, so I guess that's not too bad for a brand new engine. I guaranteed myself a 20% reduction in petroleum use on the second tank. Filled it with B-20.

I got 19.8 on my first half a tank. Has B50 in it now.

well i know what you mean i just filled up and it was all city driving but i only got 295 miles and put 18.5 gallons in it so i got 16.0 mpg does anyone know what i can do about this

I get 20 mpg in town up here on the hill with #2. Sounds like yours is about spot on for brand new. I get 25-26 mpg running 65 - 90 mph on big road. I put on slightly shorter tires so my figures can be adjusted downward about .95%. I add Stanadyne which you don't need with the B20 as your lubricity agent is already in it.

By the way, the sales manager from the dealership is going to call "DC" Monday and ask about the warranty thingee. They gave me a line about no CRD in stock, can't check the book which is nonsense since all Libs use same booket.

I have a few miles on it now , just last week took my 1st longer trip , 700 miles round trip up to Mackinaw City.

25.5MPG doing approx 65-80miles/hr all the way. not bad at all, I like the milage alot better than the gas version I had before!.

I've drove mine 900 miles in the two weeks I've owned it, and so far I am getting 23-24. Really can't complain about that at all. Had the CEL come on once with the tranny filter errors, but cleared it so I could show off the libby to my family without having to explain the error. Dang thing hasn't hickuped since, so I guess I will have to wait to take it back to the dealer for the TSB's.

Filled up in Austin with B20...which gave me about a B15 mix (still had some regular diesel in the tank). I drove a few city miles (10%) and the rest highway...got 33.99 mpg. First big jump :lol:

The tank before that I stopped "babying" it and used a heavy foot...figuring it was time to add a load to the thing since I have over 2000 miles on it now. Don't know if that was part of the reason for the increase. Also the first time I added Power Service and Amsoil Diesel Concentrate.

Set the cruise at 70 (which is 67.5 by me GPS) and got the 33+...

Sounds like you have about a 5% error in speedometer and that would mean about a 2 mpg drop in mpg average unless you already allowed for that difference. Myself I have almost hit the 34 mpg mark twice in the CRD, by by the time it has 18k to 20k miles I expect to be able to push the 35/36 mpg mark with CC set at 68 mph on level interstate type highway. We could do 21 to 23 city if wife would not do so much idle time and had a lighter foot, and then there is me that can only go FTF from a stop till I get to the speed I want to go. :roll:

No on the 5% adjustment down. The GPS reads slow on the mph but high on miles traveled. My odometer says 80 and the GPS says 84. The is 5% the other way. Point for me is anything over 30mpg is welcomed

I trust the GPS when it comes to mph at a steady rate...I think that the miles traveled is higher on a GPS because it reads once evey second...so when you are slowing down...it is still calculating at a higher rate for a second...multiply that times how many seconds it takes to speed up or slow down and I think that might account for the difference. The speedo reads ~2.5 mph slow across the board at a steady rate. The stock miles traveled is probably close to being correct or just a little more.

Let me vent here, cause thats about all I can do. I am at a full year now with no improvement on mileage. 16 around town and 19/20 on the highway at 70-75mph. Granted I just upped the tires to 245MTR's but did I get the lemon or what. I have never got the mileage you guys get.
God help my CRD I love it so....but she loves to drink it up.
Oh and I drive like a grandma other than the highway speed!
I've read all the post and still see no solution. I would love to see 25 mpg some day!
I wonder if its the humidity in Florida... or the Bermuda triangle.

Your wider tires screwed you. It's a much larger percentage of tire surface (with all 4) on the pavement now. You can still get to the 24-25mpg range if you keep your speeds between 55mph and 65mph for a whole tank with minimal in town driving.

Also depending on the height of the tire your speedometer and odometer could be 10% or more off and add that to the extra wide tire with greater rolling restance and wind drag and you could have easy cost yourself 5 mpg to 7 mpg or more in fuel ecomony. Put your OEM tires back on if you still have them and try it out for a while and see what happens

Stop driving it like a Grandma. Drive it to 2200rpm and let it do it's thing. I was driving mine slow and easy and could not break 20.0 mpg in the city, now at 22.0 mpg in city at 2000 miles. 28 mpg on hwy at 70 mph.

1850 to about 2200 RPM's is best for fuel mileage, and at those RPM's I can easy go past 32 mpg. Now that said quality and cetane rating of the fuel is also a big factor, I have access to 49 cetane B2 & B10 fuel with out that fuel it drops down to 28 to 30 mpg range. I think a lot of folks will see a increase in mpg when they start getting ULSD fuel that will be 46 cetane minium from what I read.

My first drive to work and back (150 miles round trip) I got 27 mpg. The one way to work that same day (75 miles) I got 30.3 mpg. This was all at 65 mph, and some city driving. It would have been better overall, except I had to sit in stop and go traffic on the way home, for about 5 miles. I am pleased. This is for a new 2006, that had a95 miles on it.

First fillup - 18.7 mpg. Mostly in-town and stop'n'go rush hour traffic ... not great, but still better than the 2000 Cherokee it replaced ... guess I need to run it a little harder on this tank! Both stations in my area were OUT of B20, so I got stuck with straight dino this go round ..... :roll:

I need to move!

Yep, I check mine and is exactly the same, speedometer shows 70, gps shows 68, after 100 miles one libbys odometer, gps show 105, 5% diff. I think I would trust the GPS Data vs the Libbys.

I got 21mpg at 75 mph with 5,000 miles on it. Now that I have 13,000 i get about 25mpg. I am afraid to check in town cause i can't keep my foot out of it

well heres an update on mine and its right at a 1000 miles my first tank was 16mpg in city and some highway. but now its like 15.6 all city dealership told me to wait until 10000 miles but i have read alot here and have not seen any thing this bad is there something wrong with it what should i do
