I just traded in my 02 liberty 3.7 for an 06 crd. Some one please tell me i did the right thing. Reading this page makes me think I should've kept my 02. I don't pick up the new one until tomorrow night.should I skip out on the deal?

Don't get scared, just read up and with a few minor adjustments you will be fine. Many of us read this site for months, myself for 1 1/2 years
and I still bought one, because they are a great vehicle, no other unit fits the type of vehicle they occupy. In time we will cure most of
the ailments or correct them ourselves. So relax--read the positive thread. Wife just returned from a 10 hour trip and weekend driving
around and averaged 28.8mpg. Name another vehicle that will do that, and pull stumps out of the ground.

Get the CRD you will love it. The founder of LOST did the exact same thing you are doing. Traded his 02 for an 06 CRD. Some of the threads here make the CRD look bad but almost everyone would still do it again. Some even say they would buy another to keep as a spare! Hang out here and there are plenty of good folks to steer you in the right direction 8)

I wouldnt even own a liberty if it wasnt for the CRD.

Ripster--if I dumped the clutch in my Outback at 5 grand, I could probably get a few stumps out.

Drivetrain wear would be the factor though.

Seriously though, I read through the forum for several days and looked at all the issues and decided they were correctable and the vehicle couldn't be beat. So I told my parents they should become a 2-Jeep family with the CRD.

Remember, this site is comprised mostly of CRD fanatics and of others coming here for help with problems they are experiencing. Not all CRD's will experience EVERY single problem you read about here. Many of the TSB's cure a lot of the comming problems you read about here.

Read up on the TSB's, figure out which are applicable to your new CRD (if any) and get your dealer to do them for you very early on. Early detection is the best form of prevention

I've never owned an SUV or a diesel powered car. Being in a smaller, maneuverable SUV that feels really powerful and makes that cool clattering sound is a lot of fun, and I don't even go off-road!

You did the right thing! Really and truly, the CRD may have a few quirks, but is an excellent driving vehicle with a drivetrain that, with regular routine maintenance, should last over 200k easily.

I traded in my 2002 gasser for the 2006 CRD and KNOW I made the correct decision. Right now my Odometer reads 280 miles and the guage is sitting on 1/2...my gasser would have been on fumes. The other big diff is the ESP, Traction Control, Braking Improvements and Roll Over Mitigation.
Those two improvements alone made the trade worthwhile in my opinion.

Run the Elephant Hose Modification until we get a permanent fix...Otherwise you are OK...Enjoy.

Hey WADEKJ if you do get the CRD drop on down for the Old Navy Diesel GTG we should have 2 or 3 CRD's, 7 or 8 VW TDI's, and maybe a MB diesel here for the fun, food and work.

The CRD set the Liberty apart from the rest of the crowd for me. It has definitely been a good choice for me, I am at 12,000 miles and have the tranny shudder but I avoid it by how I drive, other than that it is a great vehicle. I get 22 mpg in mixed driving compared to my wife's Rendezvous which gets 16mpg on the same roads, and she drives with a lighter foot than I do. The only issue that I have right now is that my wife wants the Liberty when we get rid of the Rendezvous. I believe that I have found a solution to that problem in that I will be looking at the CRD Grand when it comes out in 2007. Its a great rig, just be prepared to answer the question "Do you know that you are putting Diesel in that thing?".

YES!

And like Jeger said, I want a second one as a spare. I have not broken down yet, or thrown any codes from the computer, just had trouble being proactive and trying to get the latest computer reprogramming TSBs done.

I just passed 10 full months of driving and 13,700 miles of driving without breakdown or computer codes thrown - and I've done some heavy off roading as well.
