In the Twin Cities there was a 15 Cent increase in Diesel Fuel Prices this week. Anyone else notice the same in other parts of the country? Anyone know whats causing it?

The reason is they don't need a reason. All the company's that sell products or services to the oil companys should charge the oil company's twice as much or more than they charge everyone else. The oil company's report record profits and try to blame the high prices on the middle east, bad weather when it is simple greed on thier part.

The green people that don't want any drilling in the US or any new refineries aren't helping any.

While we pay ~.40 per gallon in tax...Airlines like SW Airlines pay NO TAXES on Jet Fuel. If they just paid ~.01 per gallon tax they could drastically reduce fuel tax in Texas.

Funny, in talking to the oil industry people, I've been told that it wouldn't matter if they were allowed to drill anyplace their heart desired -- or for that matter every 10 feet everywhere on the planet -- there isn't enough oil left to be tapped to make a dent in what is expected to happen in the oil markets over the next 50 years or so.

Washington State diesel prices haven't notably fluctuated over the same time period.

Early last week most prices for dinodiesel around Broward FL were about $2.97 to $3.09. I see at
http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx
that local prices have shot up -- some as high as $3.29.

My favorite is an unbranded (Tom Thumb) location that always serves diesel for less than the major chains. Still at $2.99

Everything I've heard about the oil industry says that there are huge unexploited oil reserves. There just is no refining capacity to take advantage of it.

In the last 2 weeks I've seen the AZ stations I'm familiar with drop from 3.15 to 3.03-2.90s. Can't figure it out.
Why does it make me suspicious?

Diesel here ranges from 2.5 cents below RUG to 7 cents more then RUG. Diesel even at 10 cents more per gallon then RUG the differential would only be about 4% higher for RUG, which is no big deal for those that only drive <20,000 each year in a vehicle that get 30% to 40% better fuel mileage then a RUG powered vehicle.

Diesel in San Antonio is within .03 of Gas. The HEB sells diesel at 2.79 right now...it is worth the 7 mile drive if I let my guage get below 1/4...just takes so long to get there

Most diesel is around 2.89 +/- .04 in San Antonio.

I heard those same forcasts over 40 years ago. I remember hearing in the 80's that we would only have 20 years of cost effective oil reserves left at the rate of consumption. Heck, in the 80's, actors were in the media claiming the oceans would not sustain life after another 20 year's of man's actions!

When allowed to thrive, the free market will always win out. The current chairman of BP has testified that between the oil sands of Canada, the KNOWN oil deposits in the Gulf of Mexico, and the oil reserves untapped on the N.A. continent, we have enough to take care of our needs past the 50 year prediction by doom and gloom scenarios. The government just restricts going and getting it. To wit, the lastest round of congressional debate about drilling in the Gulf and ANWR.

Get the government out of the way and you will see plenty of oil at a price less than we have now. Also, we wouldn't be lining the pockets of those that like to shoot missles and blow up children. Let's get the oil that is available here, increase biodiesel and ethanol use, build a few more refineries, and lower our consumption a little, and we would be sitting pretty good.

We used to live in St. Charles, moved because of the new airport runway and the politics are so bad. I do miss access to the Katy Trail. Well back to the point, I live down the road in Wentzville and we are getting the new 15ppm sulfer fuel. Are the stations in St. Charles selling the new low sulfer fuel yet?

Check out the last graph on this page to see fuel prices in Norteast Marlyand. I usually fill up at the same place every week or so. At least diesel is still 15 cents or so cheapre than gas around here.

Only problem is with the "lower our consumption" part. From what I've seen since '73, since we had the first go round on this, this country will only reduce it's consumption when forced to by 1) higher fuel prices, or 2) government mandated CAFE regs.

If magically tomorrow morning, we suddenly had a new supply of crude and another 10% refining capacity, such that prices dropped back down to even the $1.50/gallon range, 95% of the people in this country would go back to their old ways immediately. SUV and large truck sales would soar again, you wouldn't be able to give away a hybrid or TDI, and they would conveniently forget that gas ever cost $3/gallon. As long as fuel is plentiful and cheap, then the majority of people in this country just don't give a hirsute rodent's posterior about the future.

Unfortunately, you are correct. As long as we as a country keep the same old mindset, this will be a continual problem. But then we, as a people, tend to bring these things on ourselves. With me, fuel is the largest cost to my operation and therefore to my existence, so I have a mindset to conserve. I just wish a few others would jump on the wagon. It is sad to see a "me only" midset.

About half of that is state road use tax and the remaining $0.21/gal is F.E.T. They likely pay F.E.T. now as with the over-the-road bus industry as Congress took away their long standing F.E.T. expemption this year. Airlines don't pay the same taxes because the don't use public roads (or we hope the don't).
