This darn thing is starting to drive me nuts.

Dropped it off Wednesday morning, they replaced #4 glow plug, picked it up Thursday morning, everything just fine.

Got off work tonight, starting a week's vacation, was entertaining thoughts of spending a couple days at the beach after I finished going over the MB and taking care of a few other items.

Didn't even make it out the gate, f#####g CEL came back on!

Getting bloody tired of having to organize my life around this Jeep's shortcomings. Now the MB will be put on hold AGAIN because the Jeep has to go to the dealer AGAIN.

Trade that thing for something else, it's a lemon.

Does the ignition 3 key on-off sequence show another P1267? Maybe be another gp fault?

My thoughts exactly. Either another one gave up from being stressed due to the EGR failure, or the tech rough handled/bare handed the #4 replacement.

Going by Advance to get the codes read now.

Would like to keep the thing going till Jan '07, then get a GC with an MB or an '07 CRD that's hopefully had some updates from lessons learned (that's if DC has bothered to learn anything from this). Especially since I just spent $70 getting an '02 air cleaner box to do the gasser mod to the intake.

And the kicker of the whole deal is I WORK for DC (Freightliner)!

Exactly. While I was in LNJC last year for gp replacement, there was another CRD in for the exact same problem. Different tech working on it had a cart beside the vehicle - I was standing outside the bay doors, and watched him. Took the gp out of the box, looked at it, tossed it on the tray from about 2 feet away and went to work on getting the old one out. These newer ceramic fast start gp's are a real advancement, but require careful handling - changes most diesel techs aren't used to. In addition to being 7 vdc only. Another test procedure diesel techs are used to doing is now destructive - touching the gp with 12vdc battery voltage to see if its any good. Anything could have happened to that gp before it was installed.

Since my last egr replacement/pcm flash update, I noticed a lower torque output. Exhaust flow is less as well at idle. But the infamous turbo bark, which I 've had since day one, is now gone. Completely.

I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and reconnected it thinking it might clear the ECM. After that, the power is much better, but still slightly less than it used to have at low end - it comes on more gradually. But now its fun to drive again, not so doggy as it was at highway speed. It had less passing power than my V6 right after the flash. That power is back. I do notice that the tranny is holding rpm longer now between shifts and doesn't shift to the next gear anywhere near as fast as it used to.

Checked with the Fluke before I headed to Advance. Different plug, #2 or #3 this time (red/brown wire), going to require pulling the intake tube, 160 ohms.

Went over to Abernethy, made an appointment (2:30 PM Monday) to get this one done. Went by the parts desk to order an inlet tube and water dam, and some spare glow plugs as well. But for some reason the parts desk was already shut down and no one around.

I'm about ready to tell them when I go over there Monday, that I'll pop for the extra two glow plugs, just go ahead and replace all three originals that are left in the engine, so we don't have to repeat this evolution again.

Goes against my better judgement, but I might call LN and see if they have any in stock, so they're in hand and we can get this over and done with.

DC should probably be doing this when an egr valve is malfunctioning for more than a day or two. But since they don't its a good idea. It doesn't take too long for the gp's to weaken once the egr dies in the open position. From the time my CEL went on until the egr was replaced was 85 miles - plenty long enough to ruin 2 of them.
