I have seen that mopar offers a locking gas cap for the Liberty. Does this work with the CRD? Does anyone use one?

Does anyone else find it nuts that the door does not lock?

I don't think there are a lot of folks out siphoning diesel. If they are they are probably stupid enough to pour it into their gasser. Hope they do.

I believe the locking gas cap will work on the diesel but it isn't GREEN so if you had someone else fill it, like on a trip to Oregon, then you might end up getting gassed.

Yes, I use one and it works fine. However, it does not attach to the gas cap door like the green one does. I put mine on the back bumper and leave the key ring attached so that I can't accidentally drive off and not place the cap back on!
My intent was two fold in using the locking cap, one if someone tries to siphon fuel from my Jeep and then finds that it's diesel, they will be awfully upset to intoduce diesel into their gas can. So upset, that they might decide to pour something back into the Jeep such as water, dirt or worse yet relieve themselves because they had one to many beers.

I have the mopar one, and drilled the hole in it for the plastic strap. Works fine.....

i have the cap and it works just fine, i have it on not because people might steal my fuel but harm might be done such as sugar or other things

If someone knows what color green that is, you may be able to do a spray job on it, and put a sticker on there that says Diesel Fuel Only. Not pretty or professional looking...but I bet it would work.

Don't bother with painting it green ot putting a diesel only sticker on it. Consider not doing so as protection if your CRD gets stolen. Odds are the thief will put gas in it eventually and you vehicle probably will be recovered within a week.

If your CRD is stolen, you wouldn't want it back afterward ... especially if they put gas in your diesel tank. I'd rather have the insurance money for a replacement that didn't have the daylights beat out of it before they put gas in it.

I'll second that motion.

Several years ago, out in Portland, a friend that's involved with electric vehicles had one stolen out of his driveway. Can't remember the make or model, but it was a popular late-model car that the owner had converted to battery-only electric drive. The owner had left it with my friend to perform a battery pack change out. The batteries had aged to the point it only had a 5 to 10 mile range at best.

One morning, my friend got up and the car was gone out of the driveway. He called the police, and a couple hours later they found it parked along the northbound shoulder of I-5, 6 miles from his house, battery pack deader than a doornail. And probably out of sheer frustration at being foiled in his robbery attempt and stranded along I-5 in a high-visibility area where someone was sure to notice, he'd made some attempt to trash the car before hightailing it out of there.

That guy must have been one clueless SOB.
