I was talking with a couple of mechanics at work, they ask me if my ball joints had failed yet. They informed me that a KJ in town was going down our local interstate at 55 and the left front lbj failed. tire got stuffed sideways, the KJ was in the left lane when it happened and was able to control it to pull it off onto the shoulder. I am going to get details.

what's the wetness from? Raining out or did you spray some cleaner on it or is there a grease leak?

Also, you have the heat shields, so it was at the dealer at some point for those. They installed the heat shields without changing the LBJs?

Yes it was raining -- and it was at the dealer early on -- I guess they did the shields but I dont remember any joints being changed out ...

The ones on that 06 crd are different than any other joints Ive ever seen. I hope thats not what they are going to use. Still not greaseable.

Is that why the A arm is different? Look at the mounting surface for the LBJ.

OH, and you can forget about them being greaseable. No way will they produce a greaseable part, IMO.

That's MOPAR for you :)

Mostly Old Parts And Rust. I believe in some competition (restoration) judges will deduct points if your lower suspension components don't have authentic rust.

I thought everyone has them now. You may want to go to the dealer for a set. Seriously.

They were installed on my '02 as part of the first recall. I'm not sure, but thought they were the "engineering improvement" that DCX states as being implemented to cure the problem. My second set failed anyway, and as we all know, the ball joint itself has never really changed.

I just looked at mine that were replaced last fall with Moogs. The ring is definitely yellow. The top has a blue coloring on it. Also on top are the numbers 199 3B. The bottom of the rubber boot has the part number 19829.

Build date early August 01.

Common for every years model. Build date can go as far back as June/July (after they revamp for the next production year). Also depends on the quantity ordered by dealerships/people/etc...

I've got them on mine. I didn't think I did either until I went on my back and got a bit underneath. They weren't noticable at first but after about a minute I found them.

Went to the dealer today for my oil change. The tech checked the front end. The tech wrote on the service order that my vehicle was unsafe to drive!!! Was told all it could have taken would've been a decent sized pot hole!!! I originally posted this under the link below.

Hello everyone,
I am a new member and I love the sight. I purchased my new lib on June 23, 2006. The manufacture date was May 06. When I type my vin # intp the recall page on the Chrysler recall sight it says there are no recalls for my vehicle (Manufactured after March.) My ball joints have the blue ring and a green dot above that. But what scares me is that they are already getting greasy over the blue line on the boot. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

You probably are not part of the recall, but don't reply on me for that or the Jeep site. I don't think anyone whom has entered their VIN has yet had this recall returned as they are not scheduled to start doing them until September when they have the parts.
