shape-wise, my initial guess would be the patriot. But it looks way too big to be a Patriot. I think the Patriot was gonna be more of a CR-V or old Rav-4 sized vehicle

Well, lets try a process of elimination. From looking thru the openings in the front bra we can see the classic 7-slot grille of a Jeep, so that is pretty much established. As to it being a Patriot or Liberty, if you look at the images of the Patriot on the Jeep.com site you'll see a couple of styling clues: 1) the rear window wiper on the Patriot is mounted thru the glass, whereas on this one it is mounted below the glass (much as on the present KJ). Several of the Rockies people who attended the Jeep show out in Denver also report that the new Liberty keeps the flip-glass with a swing-up rear gate (which this vehicle has). 2) on the Patriot the front headlights are rather plain, with trim all around and the driving/fog lights mounted down in the front bumper corners. On this vehicle the headlights look much more like the Commander units with seperate low and high beam portions. Add to these the fact that they are disguising (to a limited extent) the lines/features of this Jeep and I would say that it is the new Liberty. It would be nice if someone who attended one of the Jeep shows would chime in and give us a better answer.

Anyway, thats my $1.25 ($.02 adjusted for inflation, cost of living, etc.)

If a Honda Element and Scion thingy (I don't know who makes those ugly things) got busy, that's what you'd get. At first it looked like a dodge with the front end but that was just the "Hide the Jeep Super, Ultra, Mega secret bra".

Scion is a division of Toyota (just so ya know). I'd love to see what they used to mask the Nitro when they were road testing it - maybe a 7-slot bra with mesh in the holes???

Looks like square headlight enclosures with the round lights inside (like the commander) but the hood is still the Liberty hood with curved spots for the lights - so the lights are square on 3 sides and round on top... Pretty ugly thus far...

I'm happy with my Liberty. I love the spare tire being off the back, especially when you put on your 31's. The new look is more conservative, appealing for on-road adventures, not off-road. I'm curious why they moved away from the swing out gate like we all have now.

Oh well. I'm gonna hold onto mine for a very long time!

Because he's Milous, that's how :-P He's got some kinda secret DC connection whereby he leaks the Good Stuff to us before DC is willing to back it up with anything. I dunno where he was on the balljoint thing, though, the first I heard of it was the morning news. :-P

I agree. But all SUV's are becoming more car-like these days. Finding a true offroad machine really limits you, even manufacturers like Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Ford that used to make SUVs based on truck platforms with solid rear axles are producing them with independent suspensions. :(

Looks like DC wants to thank us KJ owners for our support by making the new Liberty look like a modern XJ

Changing a tyre on the trail will be a b.... with the spare hanging underneath.

Oh well, I will save some money in the end as I will keep the KJ a couple of years longer, no need to change it for the new model.

No, he doesn't mean 2007 Jeep Liberty. He REALLY DOES mean 2008. Heck, the 2007 Liberty should start production in a few days... if it hasn't already.

It has been known for a few years now that the KJ would continue to MY 2007.

I'm there with ya on all those points! I've spent more than enough time on the ground getting stoopid spares out from stoopid undrcarriage locations in mud, rain, and more. I'd much rather stand up and be comfortable (well, as comfortable as you can be) taking a spare off. I'd even give up some cargo space if it meant I didn't have to get on the freakin' ground :P

There's also the looks equation. Personally I hate the spare being on the back. The KJ... IMO... looks much better without it.

With the spare being underneath you now have the option to put it up top on a roof rack, without having to sand down your rear door, fill in the holes, and repaint it (KJ). Just like the XJ when the tire was on the inside...I know I couldn't fit my 32" spare tire in the back again, at least without blocking my entire view! haha.

We as a community here who all love our Jeeps, probably shouldn't be bagging on the newer Jeeps coming out, Especially if they wil carry the name Liberty...its ok to have an opinion of what you like and dislike, but heres one thing to remember..the people who buy the late model Libbys are going to be looking for a forum to come to, and guess what?..it should be here, and if history repeats itself and usually does..I would bet some people here are going to trade in their old ones for new ones and they will be coming to this forum with ideas, questions, and other info, we should welcome anyone who has a Jeep Vehicle thats looking for a great forum to come to, and not bash anyone for what they drive...at least they are active and hopefully wheeling whatever they buy, and remember, there are alot of manufacturers, Jeep Engineers, and magazine people who come to this forum..we have a great community here thats always been helpful with the Liberty owners..we just need to remember that and keep that going...thats what makes this forum so great...see ya...Wally
