Background
Experienced a strange loss of power while driving across country recently. I had to floor the accelerator to get moving, and then top speed was about 50mph. After turning off the vehicle and waiting 5 minutes everything was fine. The CEL came on a couple of hundred miles later...

Today
Got the CRD back from the dealer and they found codes P0513, P0093, and P0101. They eplaced the mass air flow sensor, and tell me I'm good to go. I couldn't really get anything else out of them, except that the sensor was on backorder and it took about 3 days to get one.

Had to be more than a MAF failure, I had one fail early on and it just throws one code (none of those above that I remember) and when it fails it does not cause a driveability problem like you described.

Did they do any flash updates as well? When mine did that, the codes it threw were the ones for tranny updates. Dealer did the flash and I haven't had a problem since.

P0101 is for MAF Sensor, P0093 is for Contaminated Fuel, don't recognize the other.

From what I understand, you'll get the P0093 code if fuel rail pressure drops some percentage below what the ECM calls for.

Okay, that all makes perfect sense actually...

P0513, Incorrect immobilizer key Immobilizer system
Gave my "spare" key to the wife who used it to unlock the door and then started the beast. It ran for a minute before stopping and the alarm going off. :) I guess that "spare" key is only useful for unlocking the door?

P0101 range/performance problem Intake leak/blockage, MAF/VAF sensor
Seems that the MAF actually failed and the tech said it was "falling apart".

P093 Fuel System leak, large wiring.
Owing to the MAF failing, the fuel pressure must have dropped while I was experiencing that complete lack of power. As I had mentioned, I could floor the pedal and nothing much happened.

Thanks guys.

I guess that key trick put it in limp mode.

Actually, no. The key usage happened 10 minutes before I took it to the dealer. The other performance issue was a few hundred miles before that. :)

Why do they give you that spare key if it really isn't useful for anything? Or, am I the only one that has this weirdo key? Since I bought the CRD used I don't know if everyone got one of these or not...

Is the battery in the key handle dead/weak? Possibility it's not programmed correctly and your Jeep doesn't recognize the the transponder signal.

Your spare may not be a transponder key at all. What does it look like? I made a "spare" key for lockout use, but it has no transponder and will only unlock the doors. It will start the Jeep, but it won't keep it running.

Yeah, sorry, the "spare" is definitely not a transponder key. It's just a key with a grey plastic handle on it. I was just wondering why it even came with the truck since it seems to be useless except for getting the driver's door open in a pinch.

If you need a functional spare you can get a transponder blank off Ebay (Strattec brand), get it cut by somebody, and program it with the Jeep if you have two working transponder keys. The non-transponder spare makes a handy hide-a-key.

By the way, my Strattec spare is grey with an oval shaped head. If yours says Strattec on it, your Jeep may not have been taught to accept it. Your owners manual details the procedure. It could also be defective, or just a plain key of course.

??? Both of my keys work: lock/unlock--enable/disable the alarm on the Jeep. Don't the CRDs come from the factory with the keys? Or does the Dealer have to make a second key for the purchaser? Maybe your dealer was extra cheap?

Yes they come with two keys where the remote control and transponder are in the key head. If you have any other type of key, it is not an original that came with the CRD. This is pretty much the case for all Liberty's post 2003 or 2004 (forget which year they changed over the key. But before 03 or 04, the Libertys had a transponder key and seperate remote control on a key ring). There are no valet keys, no door keys, no other keys. Just the two keys with remotes and transponders in the keyhead on CRDs.

Aha! Thanks Goglio704. The key in question is a Strattec key, and after perfroming the procedure in the manual it seems like it must be defective. I never get that final chime after 10 seconds to let me know it is programmed.

Thanks for the help everyone.
