AFAIAC, the All J bumper doesn't exist now since there's still tooling that needs to be done, boss to be convinced, etc. so it's not like it's sitting there on the shop floor. Granted, it's a different situation than Rock Lizard that's in planning stage right now.

There are bumpers that are on KJ's right now as we speak....JJ's got one...Wally's got one....the give a-way un-appreciated KJ has got one...someone in AZ has one... only problem is that I DONT HAVE ONE ! ( but I will....just wait and see

The rock lizard is....A PICTURE and a promise.

** dont get me wrong...I'd like to see RL come up with one...but Im wondering what all the fuss is about...you want a bumper...ALL J has 'em...just get 10 people for 700 bucks and it'll happen....** '05 guys have to wait...sorry but the line is...-----> that way

well, I would like a front bumper regardless of who makes it, just not the ARB, too dang big!

Wether I build my own (time) or get one from All J C'mon quinn, I just got a few things from ya how about sneaking a bumper out... or bring one for me to put on at MOAB since I will finally make it this year!!!! (I am garaunteed in the leave book, and the LT may come too with his CJ), or I get one from RL.

and as for the time frame of now versus later, all I can say is Enlisted with 2 kids, a wife, fish, and a Jeep... I got to budget... At least I do not have to buy expensive suits to wear to work!!

I am wondering where all of those people that say you have to have the strongest and best product for off-roading. Even if a person might only do light off-roading, they tell people that the best/strongest product is the way to go....and so on.

I would "guess" that ARB IS the best bumper out there. Too heavy? So are other products for protection and better off-roading but the ARB bumper appears to be the strongest and best one out there. Go for it. Live up to your past comments. Get one (if you don't have one yet) or tell the others to get one.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This thread is about Rock Lizard's bumper, not All J's or ARB's. Please go to the other thread for talk on the other company's product.

Let's discuss the Rock Lizard bumper and see if we can make improvements on it. No, it won't be ready for awhile. Keep talking to Rock Lizard though and maybe he can come up with a great bumper. Our input can make a big difference.

If you didn't read sarcasm in the first two paragraphs, tsk tsk....all hope is LOST.

Thats the problem...to heavy ! No springs can support it for more than a year without sagging

I'm back from business trip (where I had to wear them there expensive suits). I leave for vacation next week.

so I'm popping in on the threads.

I want a bumper before september's Jeep Jamboree. Not gonna happen. i'm bummed.

but on the bright side, I got new BoulderBars, new skid plates (2) to install and scratch up.

And now I'm shopping for a convertible Muscle car and a ski condo too. Just for kicks. So the first one to ante up with a light bumper gets my $$. Act now BEFORE IT'S ALL GONE!

Thanks for the great feedback, guys. The bumper design is going to take some work, and there are some features that aren't in the CAD design of course, but the form in the CAD is pretty much how it will be. Once I get a first prototype built, and can work on the little details, such as what I can do to lighten it up. The weight I mentioned is based only off experience from the wieght of my XJ bumpers, which are 64 lbs with powder coat. I use 3/16" Grade 50 steel, but some parts of the bumper I may be able to go with 1/8", such as the parts just below the headlights. The mounting bracketry also adds a bit of weight to the equation, because when it comes to recovery points, I'm safety first, I don't care if it does add extra weight. I will have a bolt on grill guard option, and the lights are something I will have to play with, but they will be signals/markers front, and markers on the side. I'm toying with the idea of adding an HDPE (High Density Poly-Ethylene) skid to the front part of the bumper that angles down that 45*. It was mentioned if that angled piece could be eliminated to save weight. Sure, and it may save about 10lbs, but has anyone looked at the front of a KJ without the stock front bumper? I think I will leave the 45* skid.
There's a lot of work left to do, and it will take a little time, but I like to do things right the first time (safer and essentially cheaper that way). Keep the feedback coming. I did get some incentive recently to get these bumpers going, plus, I'm not greedy, but when demand is high and supply is low, a person would be stupid not to jump.

That is the ONLY way to be!

Face it guys, to get a good bumper, you are going to have weight...

Hey Rock Lizard, thanks for constantly updating and staying on this.
Now, as I have seen with the ALL J, and I hate to bring this up like this, but...

Let's not lead this guy on, unless you are serious about wanting a bumper, please do not tell him you are wanting one. Remember these guys have a business to run and as he mentioned earlier, it is all supply and demand. If we give him an inflated demand, he may use money for his family to produce supply to build for our demand. If this sounds bad I am sorry, but, I know personnally what happens when your demand goes away after your business is started.

I will step down from the soap box now :?

USAFCOP, Thanks for bring this up. This is a VERY VALID POINT. It is very easy to say you want one and then when it is done for guys to say well, the price is too high, or that is not really like the one I want , and on , and on.

I do not want to come across as negitive about this but you guys could not even get 10 guys together for the other bumper buy... so PLEASE no not jump into this thread unless you really have an interest and are willing to pull out the credit card to place an order.

We see a lot of this on the forums and it can really make vendors want to drop the group when 40 people say they want something...they make it and 2 guys buy it.

I know that RL has already posted a price... but keep in mind that the price could change after they see how the mounting needs to be done or other reasons. But the big issue is if they sell the bumper for the posted price...Are guys really going to buy them.

There can be a huge investment to have say 10 bumpers designed, cut, welded, powercoated, boxed, and shipped...and then find that 9 of them just sit on the shelf.

Again...Please do not jump into this thread unless you are really up for pulling out the credit card to buy one of these. later...clint

Just to go along with my last post...

A while back tons of guys wanted a gas tank skid. I went to the best skid plate guy out there. We had 30 guys signed up for tank skids. The price was posted and everyone still wanted one. The vendor was going to do a run of 50 to cover the 30 guys that wanted them. I requested to only do 10. he sold 6.

I am sure that he will still the 4 he has left over but should he do another run? And the really sad part is that it is the BEST gas tank skid on the market today by far. What if he had done the 50 on the first run. Man the KJ group can get a very bad name very fast.

Again...Don't jump on the bandwagon unless this is something that you are really going to do.

I think it is great that RL is trying to do this but we have to be fair to them...I am sure they do not want 98% of the bumpers they make on the first run to just sit on a shelf.

Again...I am not be negitive about this... Just fair and realistic. We all need to be very honest about wanting something and then paying for it. later...Clint

I'm curious? Was that Kilby? Because I bought one after you had that group buy ( I wasn't a member then) and when I bought mine earlier this year, he said they were down to one left.

FWIW, I wouldn't commit to buying anything until I knew the final price. To me that's just stupid.

What does this Kilby gas-tank skid have? I already have OEM one, but when it comes time to replace it I'll know what choices I have.

I could be mistaken but I'm under the impression Kilby is no longer making a KJ skid. It was real armor, unlike the DC stuff.

Btw; when I commented I thought it was dumb to commit to purchasing an item w/o knowiing the price, what I actually meant was, give me a ballpark figure and I'm good. Not a guess as to what it might cost. But if you tell me $700.00 and then claim you're not able to build them for less than $900.00, that's BS. The way I see it, we're talking about a auto part, not a custom built home. Just wanted to make my opinion clear fwiw.

Sorry to hijack the bumper thread but the Kilby skid wouldn't have this dent in it
Image
or the ones on the bottom. Bump against one little rock and it tweaked that whole side. There is a part on the bottom where the skid is right against the tank. Gotta take it off and beat it.
