I have notice a bang in the rear of the truck doing certain things. I was thinking it was because I still have stock shock but maybe that is it. If I turn right over a gutter onto another street it does it, if I go over a speed bump it does it on the departure of the bump, then a big dip too fast did it at compression of the suspension. And today when I was drag racing a buddy Chevy 2500 and I shifted from first to second hard it did it. I am thinking the track bar for the rear end???? BTW I lost once I hit 3rd gear but it was close before that  .

Could possibly be bottoming out the suspension. Firmer shock would probably help.

Are these things causing enough flex that it might be your rear spring popping back into place? It's a thing I encouter on the trails when I flex out a lot.

Just re-read your post. If you still have stock shocks then they are probably topping out. The stock shocks don't allow much further down travel when lifted. They are too short. I highly doubt one of your springs is coming loose with stock shocks.

Arent the ome shocks the same length as the stock shocks eddo? I never have any problems with that. I do hear the springs pop alot though. More so when I was stock.

A loud bang going over speed bumps and under hard acceleration caused by shocks? I realy doubt it.
We had that very same problem check your sway bar that was causing our problem.
A maxed out shock will not bang a shock will only bang if it moves side to side they have bushings to prevent the up and down bang.
and going up to far also will not bang cause if the tires hit they are made of rubber and if the bump stop is doing its job it too is made of rubber
all this is based on every thing else being properly "installed" or "put togeather right"

A shock will bang if you drop the wheel fast enough and there is no ground to catch it. Only think that stops if from moving further down is the shock. And I doubt there is much of an internal bumpstop inside the shock. Do it quickly enough and it will make a nice thud.

Also you will notice a bang if you bottom out the suspension at more than a crawl. This is especially prevalent with the 2.5" daystar spacers, which will result in coil bind before hitting the rubber bump stops.

Actually the rubber bump stops don't do much if you bottom it out hard enough. If you disagree then go get your Jeep airborne and listen to the huge shuttering bang as your Jeep comes to the ground. I've done a few times on accident.

JeepJeepster, I did have that problem with the OME shocks topping out over speed bumps and deep ravines with my OME springs and 2 spring isolators in the rear.

Ohh, I see. I guess the extra isolaters is what did it. I do not believe Ive ever heard them top out.

I am not going to argue this point with you because it sounds like you are wanting that but if you think that a shock maxing out will bang loud enough to cause any one concern then you keep on doing that but I have never heard any noise from a shock unless I have it in my hands and compress it and let it go it will make a slight hissing noise
I have heard springs open and close but never bang and I have never heard a axel hitting a bumpstop bang
If you are hearing noise from you suspension and think that it is a shock or something else related then
1) your are driving way to fast and jumping it wich is just plan stupid and thats what gives people like me a bad name or
2) somethig is realy wrong and should be looked at by some one quilified to diagnose these kinds of problems

Not to argue, but eddo usually knows what hes talking about. A shock being bottomed out can cause some noise. How loud, Im not to sure b/c mine never have.

I dont believe hes driving his jeep to fast either, but again, I dont want to argue.

I'm gonna throw out a totally different hypothesis for anyone interested. It could be his sway bar hitting the harmonic balancer. I didn't have that problem until after I was lifted. I probably bent my balancer on the trail though. But I had the same clunking noise going over speed bumps in parking lots etc. I just pulled the swaybar off to remedy the situation.

I had a noise just like you are describing right after my lift. Re-torqued the shock bolts and it went away. If this is not it. I would suspect bottoming out of stock length shocks.

Wow! Lots of info! You guys are awesome. My driving habits are pretty sedated. As far as the speed bumps it was no more than 12-15 MPH. Racing my buddy Sunday didn't involve speed bumps but rather a hard 1 to 2 upshift (manual tranny) the same bang. I will check my clearance between harmonic balancer and swaw bar and also check the lower shock bolts. I will be changing to the longer Ranchos soon. As far as my turning off one street over a gutter and on to another street and the banging noise, it would be nothing at all to raise a cop's eyebrow about regarding speed. Thanks for all the great info.
