The CRD will tow it just fine, however, its the brakes that have me worried.

Last month I towed 4k+ ~1200 miles with no issues averaging in the high 18mpg. I also installed a brake controller which makes towing a breeze.
FWIW, towing my CSVT my Lightning averaged 8.5MPG while my CRD was in the low 19s.
Here's a crappy picture

I have an '06 Sport with towing package. I tow my 3000lb Coleman camper + 3 or 4 hundred pounds of gear up and down mountains of Utah and Colorado. Zero problems until I try to get going abouve 70 MPH and then it get's squirly and not a great idea because of total weight of trailer vs CRD.

Anyways, it pulls like champ at any speed I want. I've got elec brake controller which I wouldn't tow without. Next install is sway bar but for now I just keep at 65 or below.

I also have hauled my inlaws 1000lb flatbed with about 1000lb of junk on it and I almost couldn't tell it was back there....

My two cents....great vehicle.

245/70s are about the same diameter as the stock tires, mileage should be very close to stock. A lift and 245/75s you lose about 2 mpg to wind and rolling resistence of 31 inch tire.

From the original post, you'll see he wants to tow on a RV towd type hitch, not on a trailer. I see a little different problem here, towing characteristics and no trailer brakes would make me think he'll have some problems pulling down the load in an emergency situation.

The 2007 Grand Cherokee comes out in January 2007 with the Mercedes-Benz 3.0 Bluetec V6 CDI (CRD) engine.

The word is still out on the future availability of the Liberty CRD. Some have speculated that it will return in 2007 with the VM Motori 2.8 liter Four, others have speculated that the next engine may be a Mercedes-Benz four. And VM Motori just introduced a 3.0 liter V6 of their own. Who knows...

The build date of my parents' CRD was in February, but it sat around until July when they picked it up (after being transferred from a WA dealer to one in OR as a dealer trade). Considering that the last build dates were in late May, I'd check Autotrader.com.

Yeah, I understand. My point is that there still may be new CRDs on the lots, given that production stopped in May and my parents bought a new build date Feb-06 CRD in July.
