How does Saturday, August 26 sound? This will be the stocker friendly trail. I'm going to dig through www.traildamage.com for a good trail, or atleast come up with a list of trails. If anyone has any ideas for a trail, please speak up. I'll post up some trail later tonight. I was thinking Red Cone, but it has been a few years since I was up there, and it is stocker friendly from what I remember, but there are some really tight hairpins through the trees before breaking above tree line. That and the trail down from Red Cone is pretty steep. I was skeered last time. There was some dangly wife crap hanging from the rear view mirror, and it was laying flat on the windshield (which is 45* on the XJ). I'm hesitant on this one because of the steepness, and everyone really has to have their brakes in good shape before going, because its about 900 feet to the nearest tree to slow your roll.

You can check out Red Cone on Trail Damage, and I have some pictures on my Trail Rides page at the very bottom. I'm going to try and find something else though. China Wall would be a great trail for a meeting, stocker friendly, with obstacles for the brave that have bypasses, and an awesome shady area at the end of the trail near the river for meeting and lunch. It is a good half way point for the springs and denver guys, since a lot of the trails lately have been closer to Denver. I'll keep looking for others.

I vote China wall, I have never done it, and even if it is easier, I would like to do a new trail.

Perhaps if our northern folks chime in to show interest, we could do a trail more up toward Boulder.

OK, here are a couple trails I think would be great for this meeting.

One is China Wall. It is probably most difficult for people to get to, so the meeting turn out may not be as good, but the trail is short, simple, has several obstacles to play on but all of those have bypasses, the trail does have some small challenges that will still give a chance for the stockers to test out their rig, there is a nice clearing by the river in the shade at the end of the trail. On the way back out of the trail, there is another trail #204.1 that seperates from the China Wall trail (#212.1). Don't know what 204 is called, but it is a nice little trail with some nice big rolling rocks to crawl over (those are ok for stockers IMHO), but the part that isn't ok for stockers is a very sharp, narrow, steep right turn down a very rocky hill. The very top of this obstacle is so narrow and off camber, one little screw up, and you'll be begging for rear quarter panel armor like on my XJ.:D Looking through the trip reports for China Wall on traildamage.com, you will see people have added pictures of this hill to their China Wall run, so stockers, don't be scared, you don't have to go that way.

The other trail I am looking at is Rollins Pass and Jenny Creek. These wouldn't be difficult to get a great turnout of members, but it is a much longer trail. It is up toward Boulder. Rollins Pass is pretty much a very scenic dirt road. Lots of neat scenic info on www.traildamage.com. Here is the link: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/report.php?id=338
A little ways up Rollins Pass there is another trail called Jenny Creek. http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=17 It is pretty short, but it is really not stocker friendly according to the report. Jenny Creek meets back up with Rollins Pass at Yankee Doodle Lake, which is a popular picnic/fishing spot. I am thinking we run up Rollins, the more adventurous individuals can split off and run Jenny Creek, we all meet up at Yankee Doodle Lake, have lunch and meeting, finish Rollins pass up to the top, come back down as a big group on Rollins Pass, and then go home, or head into Boulder or Denver area and have dinner, or whatever we figure out from there depending on time. Here is a topo of the Rollins Pass/Jenny Creek trails: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/rolli ... ap_big.gif

What do you guys think? Time is running out pretty quick on this one, so let's choose between China Wall trip or Rollins Pass trip, and start getting our list of those attending going. I'm going to put a vote in for Rollins Pass, and since school is going now, probably better make this one a Saturday run for August 26.

If I can get next Saturday off I'll do either. Rollins Pass is near the Denver area I suppose. China wall sounds a little more interesting. A buddy of mine and I were tentatively planning to go camping up at Jones Pass Saturday night then do some shooting at the old Urab Mine area below the pass on Sunday. Maybe if I get Saturday evening off I can combine the two.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be making this month's trail ride/meeting. If there are any notes of concern for me, please drop me a line.

Chiming in from the Northern outpost of Loveland.....

I will not be able to come on this one. Sunday is my Dad's birthday and the party is at my house. The family may notice if I'm not there. That leaves Saturday to clean the house and back yard. I garruntee my wife will notice if I'm not there for that. Have fun guys, I'll try to see you in September.

Just a note on Rollins Pass. This is a VERY stocker friendly trail. Even a little passenger car will make it to the top if you drive it slow enough. I was up there for Father's day this year, and the only obsticle was remaining snow. I'm sure that it is gone by now. To further the point of stocker friendly, my Dad reminded me that we used to drive that road in our 1970 something Datsun 210 station wagon when I was growing up. The scenery is nice. There are some great views of the railroad and the Moffet Tunnel (I think that's it). The tunnel is covered by big doors due to the altitude difference at either end. It's interesting to watch the trains pass through the tunnel. When the doors open, there is a wind storm as the pressure attempts to equalize.

If you don't have any stock members or potential members chime in, folks may get a little bored with Rollins Pass.

So far we have;
USAFCOP
ROCKLIZARD
TJKJ2002
and
???KUGELLAGER???

Is anyone else going to come to the meeting? If not, we are going to change this from a stocker run to a moded run in the springs on Eagle Rock and Saran Wrap. This is the meeting, and it is on a Saturday as was requested, and now we only get 3 that are definetly coming and one maybe! I would understand if the snow was already on the ground, but we really do not have that much time left to wheel before winter.

Once Marty gets his shop, the meetings for the winter may include demos or tutorials on recovery or maintenance in a heated bay (of course I should clear it through him first, but I can talk him into it  ).

So lets come out and have another good showing!! If no one else chimes in by Friday, the run will be changed to a southern trail.

I'm out. I have Fantasy Football drafts both days. Big money pools for these two drafts.

I should be able to make it, keeping in mind that my Bachelor party is the night before. Hoping that Marty can get my sliders to me for this one too.....

I would love to go, but I made plans for this weekend last month. I will have to see if I can wiggle out of it.

OK, let's do Rollins Pass/Jenny Creek. We'll meet in Rollinsville at the intersection of 119 and NF149 at 0930, and head up the trail at 1000. If you are stock, don't have skids, don't worry about it. From what I have read, things are pretty easy going. My XJ isn't working, so I will probably take the ZJ, which has a mild lift, 31's, and no armor, so if things get too bad, the stocker/unprotected guys can turn back and run up Rollins Pass to meet everyone at the lake.
