Great info DZL! Could use the larger pic as well though.

I am glad I bought an extended warranty for ours.

My Dealership does not believe me that the pump was redesigned... Does any one know if they changed the part number too? The SM says that they would never redesign a part and use the same part number as the old one.

Thanks!

This is from my previous post about 3 pages back. I don't know if the part number was reassigned from the original.

The transmission pump was replaced with part number 68009879AB.
The TC was replaced with part number 68000336AA.
New Transmission Front Cover (Looks like a pie plate)
New Trans Cooler Line Return Filter
New Trans Sump Filter

Stopped by the dealership on a whim late night coming back from business trip around 9:00pm.
Noticed the service bay back doors were open and my Libby on the rack.
My two techs were installing my new 545RFE under the Libby.

Tomorrow morning is judgement day to see if this takes care of the problem.

I'm stopping by Dunkin Doughnuts again to get some breakfast for the service crew!

Hope I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch!

Simply amazing when you do the math. 3 weeks to get the part(redesigned front pump) - only 3 additional days to get an entire transmission. :x :x :x :x     :!:

Yes that is the DCX value proposition.

At least this experience has begun to slightly  change my opinion that Techs and Dealerships are treated no better than customers in the eyes of DCX

Yes, it does. I fortunately walked in as it was being raised by hoist underneath the transmission and verified the new pump housing was present.

I'm actually feeling a little jealous! You now have the new, improved, non-deffective CRD! :D

Drove the Libby home and was shifting silky smooth. I also noticed that when the doors locked upon exceeding 15mph that the door lock chimed, which means a software upgrade was also done but no stickers on the inside of the hood.

It really could be just my perception by not having access to the Libby for three weeks, but it does seem the engine is more quiet and the torque seems to be less off the line. I'm going to go back and see if they de-tuned the engine.

Next is to evaluate the next 500 miles and see the behavior of the transmission.

But so far so good!

Mine did the same thing after the reflash a few months ago. The computer was reset to zero and lost all of the learning. It should get some of the snarl back after about a week of driving.

Now that I know there is a place in town that can fix these things I may drag the CRD back out of the garage :)

I'm still in shock from the discovery that we all have a deffective front transmission pump and it's been redesigned without a recall....

Now we must mount a major effort to get them all replaced. Eather a recall or a CA suit. I don't think we can count on DC doing the right thing. (remember the LBJ's were only recalled because wheels were falling off) Does anyone have connections?

When they did the CAC replacement Tuesday they also did the recall TCM# 56044737AJ and the tranny shifts a lot smoother now, no longer does the clunking when shifting from park to drive or drive to park on ocassions, or the dragging shift at 35 mph.

Don't count on lawyers helping with this. A pump is only defective when it actually fails. I can see DC making a case that this is a "product improvement" and delt with under warranty should the need arise. Not trying to defend DC, but the likely thing that would bring about a recall is an effort to protect their own reputation, not anything they are leagally required to perform. You have to also keep in mind this is not a CRD specific problem. Other vehicles using the same transmission have simillar issues. When I first discussed transmission problems with my service manager, the first words out of his mouth were "front pump" and "Hemi Ram."

That's the truth, seen a few Hemi's in shop with failed trannys, just always figured "Hot Rodding" was the cause. The '05 V6 Liberty's have dropped a few trannys also, had a friend with '05 Liberty that swallowed the tranny.

It's been less that 1000 miles on the new transmission.
When the engine is at idle, she purrs. However, now when I put her in gear with my foot on the brake, she has quite a loud diesel clatter bite.
The clatter is more noticeable than with the old transmission. It's as if the Engine Control Management software thinks it's going to go up a steep grade.
The lug at 35 mph is gone but one at 15mph around the 1st, 2nd gear is starting to show up ever so slowly.
The TC is locking up at 50 mph now.
I used to be able to run at 65mph turning 1850rmp. Now at 65mph I'm turning a hair more than 2000rpm.
Even from a dead stop, Libby is having to turn more RPM's to get me moving to about 30 mph. She has to turn about 2500rpm's to get me across an intersection and that's not jack rabbiting it!

The biggest shocker is that initially my water separator light flickering on and off gave the indication that the TC and Transpump was on it's last legs.
Yesterday while on business enroute from Evansville to Keeneland in Lexington on Highway 64, the water separator light was flickering again.
When I arrived at Keenland, she behaved ok but upon departure of the parking lot at the end of the day she started to heavily transmission stutter in first gear. The way back to Indy, the water separator light did not flicker or turn on.
I'm going to check the trans fluid since OLDNAVY mentioned the tranny taking 7 quarts in a previous thread

The tranny and EGR have seem to be the Achilles heal to this vehicle.
