Revos or Silent Armor?

I'm replacing my OEM tires as soon as possible with 245/70/16. I've researched on tire rack. Read all the reviews, etc.
Revos are higher rated (#2 in survey) but the reviews of Liberty owners seem to complain about road noise.
The Silent Armors are apparently quieter.

My summer driving is generally dirt roads, mud and an occasional mild off road challenge. Winters will be highway with some snow and backroads thrown in.

Anyone have experience with either/both? Opinions?

I replaced mine with Cooper Discover ATR and I love them. Much Much better than the OEM tire. And they are not noisy.

I know a couple of people with revos one of them being my buddies mom on a cherokee. I haven't herd any complaints about noise and they all love their preformance on and off road.

I've got the SilentArmors - only have about 2800 miles on them so far, and they have been a good tire - quiet, smooth, good wet-weather traction. Haven't really had them off-road yet though.

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either tire - the Revos are a very high-quality tire, as are the SilentArmors. My only complaint is I wasn't paying too much attention and scrubbed a curb, and it pulled some chunks of black off of the the tire around the white letters ... hardly noticeable, but I do believe that Goodyear still doesn't have the best sidewalls ....

I had the Revos on my last truck (a Ford Expedition) and Silent Armors on my CRD (255/70-16s with a 2.5" lift). Both work very well. I'd give the edge to the Revos in on-road slick conditions, until you get into real snow accumulation, and then I'd give the edge to the Silent Armors. Off-road, the silent armors work better in anything wet (mud, snow, clay, etc.); the silent armors self-clean better.

Frankly, my next tires will be BFG All-Terrains. I've tried a lot of other tires, and haven't found any that work as well as the ATs in all conditions.

I think I'll be doing the same ... might be awhile though, depending on how long the SilentArmors last .... :wink:

If tread life (mileage) is a factor, I'd give the edge to Bridgestone. Old '87 Subaru wagon came from the dealer new with Bridgestones, took nearly 120K miles to wear out the originals and their replacements, badly misaligned front end killed the 3rd set with 40K miles on them and still had plenty of tread.

I need a change too after I had a near blowout on my stockers and they were, of course, not covered under warranty. Time to change them all and unlikely I will ever purchase another Badyear product.

I am looking at BFG KO's, REVO's or TOYO. The TOYO may have the edge simply because I live in Les Schwab country and you just can't beat their service and road hazard guaranty. On the other hand, I can get virtually any tire from them and they will cover the road hazard with anything they sell, you just couldn't drive in and expect an instant replacement on a non-stock tire other than a TOYO. With a full size spare this is not as great an issue though.

What I really need to figure though is:

> Will the 245/70-16 not rub on an unlifted CRD?
> Would conditions change with a Daystar lift?
> Which of these tires is best overall in dry, snow, compact snow and ice, mud.

Advice?

I got my 245/70/16 Revos Friday. The decision was made simple when I found that Bridgestone had a buy 3-get one free sale going for the Labor Day weekend. I've put 300+ miles on them and all of that on pavement. Here's what I notice so far.

No rub at all, even at full lock.
No more noise than the OEM junkers.
Car feels much more solid in general.
Less play and more positive steering
Much less roll on turns at highway speed
I may have lost 1 or 2 MPG, but it's a trade i'm willing to make!

I had them check the allignment when they installed the tires and it was WAY out of whack. I didn't think I'd been that rough on it. Is the Libby delicate? Did it come from the factory misalligned? Or can a few rocks, pot holes and back roads do that much? I'm guessing that the heavier tires won't bounce around as much? What do you think?

If you don't mind me asking, what are they getting for Revos on the 4 for 3 sale? On the allignment, I was looking at the RF tire on mine yesterday, showing inside edge feathering. I had the LBJ's done in June and have not rotated tires yet.

I've had no problems with my Revo's. No noise at highway speed, no noticable drop in fuel mileage, no rubbing in tight turns ('cause it's a bigger tire than stock). Overall I'm pleased. Haven't gone through a winter with them yet, but that's around the corner.

$137./tire and I have my OEMs in the garage if anyone is interested. I took them to 4 used tire dealers in Phoenix and no one was interested in giving me a penny for them!

Well I obviously stopped for a quote at the wrong place today. The local Firestone dealer quoted me almost $600 for 4 Destination LE's in 225/75/16. They were unwilling to upgrade the size to 245/70/16 to get Revo's or Destination A/T's (or LE's in the wider size). I guess I will keep shopping. On the OEM's, you will be lucky if you don't have to pay for disposal.
