Not sure yet if I am driving down Friday night or Saturday morning, but I will be camping at the Brandywine Campground. Should be a nice cool night of camping and campfires,, did I mention beer?

Hey George, if you come through on sat. Do you want to give me a call outside of Harpers Ferry and I will meet you at sheetz like last time. Nice poem. We might also be camping sat if we are planning to do a 2 day run. I know that has not been discussed as of yet but someone was going to bring it up.

Is there a website for the GWNF? I've been trying to find out where it is (other than VA), directions, where to camp, where we meet, etc. I'm trying to figure out if me and my old lady can come.

Anyone know where the closest/cheapest places are to camp? I will be tent camping. If i'm able to make it, i will be driving down friday, and driving back either saturday night, or sunday.

Logansix, you are coming from the other end of the state. But we met a sheetz right off I-81 last time, can't remember the exit but we will have all the info posted.

Dean, it's the first one. It's about a half mile west on rt.33 off I-81. The campground everyone stayed at last time is also on rt.33, just over the state line in West Virginia. I know how you like the tough stuff, so I just want to warn you ahead of time that this isn't that bad. It's a good place for stockers to get their feet wet. But the scenery is great, so if you come, bring the camera. That is unless we set up a side run up Dictum Ridge or Second Mountain trail. Not sure if we will yet though.

Ok, two more questions, i promise. lol anyway, it looks like i will be able to make it, pending campground information.

1) Does the GWNF allow dogs? We may have to bring the dogs (a boxer and a boxer mix), we probably wont have to, but might.

2) My friend who would like to come has a Fully Caged Rock Crawler (suzuki sidekick), and was wondering if it is worth him taking bringing it, or would he just be bored?

For the first one "I don't know"

#2 It is not that kind of trail riding. A stock 4x2 libby could go up to the knob where we had lunch last time and the Jeep trails can be done in any 4x4. So yes he would be bored if he is looking to do some rock crawling.

Hey you guys automatically counted me in! ( getting married Sunday , I may not be allowed to go play with my Jeep friends anymore) anyway Brandywine is a really nice inexpensive campground , the sites are really nice , there is a hot shower, ( no electric in the bathrooms though , go figure ) and its not too far from the trail George can let you know I think it's like under 10 miles but really very nice. I would camp there again in a second

I know i'm being a pain in the arse, but i can't find a website, or address so i can mapquest it. I have never been down to this area, ever. Anyone have the website or address? I found Brandywine Lake Park in West Virginia, is that the place? Maybe it would be better if i could call someone who has been there before (PM me). I would hate to drive 5-6 hours to not be prepared.

Go here

This is a quick mapquest link to the area and exit. We met last time at the sheetz off of I-81 on exit 247B Rt33. I am guessing this will be the game plan again.

We met just off 81, going west on rt 33. You can't miss the Sheetz. From sheetz to the campground is about 30 minutes or so. The campground is just past the trail by about 15 minutes. So it took us about 30 minutes to get back to the trail after dropping off camping gear. If you look on mapquest,, do a search for Brandywine WV. You will see that rt 33 runs into WV, and just past the state line is the town of Brandywine. Just before(about 2 miles) the town you'll see a huge GWNF Campground sign. Can't miss it. It's an homor system,, so you put $13 in an envelope and drop it in a slot,, then go pick out a camp spot. There are no reservation, so you'll just have to take a chance. It's a great campgroup. If it does happen to be full up,, there is a group camp area there somewhere that we could stay. The web site for GWNF is:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/

The web site isn't too helpful with info on Brandywine Campground, but believe me,, it's one of the nicest campgrounds I've stayed at. There are showers but they didn't have lights,, so if you're gonna shower at night,, bring a flashlight, lol. There are gravel pads and fire rings and the camp spots are not too close. A gurgling brook runs along both sides of the campground so you hear that all night long. At night you can't see a light in any direction. And it's very very quiet. At least it was after I crawled into my sleeping bag :) .

The Sheetz to meet at is:
A. Sheetz Inc
(540) 433-6200 798 E Market St
Harrisonburg, VA
0.8 mi E - Directions

Don't let the Market street address fool you. It's on rt 33. But in the city of Harrisonburg,, it's called Market street. It doesn't show up too well on the strret maps of mapquest. But you can't miss it when you get off 81, onto 33 west. You'll see it within a couple minutes.

Chris:
I'm leaning toward driving down Friday evening. I plan on taking off a half day. Meeting at 9 am at Sheetz means I'd have to get up at like 4am or something. If I camp, I can meet you guys at the little lake cause I'll be arriving there from the campground which is pretty close.

Blue KJ in PA:
If you come out wheeling with us,, we promise not to keep you out for 4 days,, you'll be back long before the 26th,, lol.

Jeepgirl:

If Blue KJ in PA can come wheeling 4 days before his wife gives birth,, you can come wheeling the day before getting married,, I mean,, don't ya want to get a little bit of mud on that gown?? I mean jeep?? lol.

So what's for lunch??

get muddy

Gee Jeep Girl, you could marry me and we would Jeep all the time :o My wife don't like me Jeepin' but I go anyway, so don't let your husband stop you! Drag him along, we'll get him in the mood!

Mike (Talon) was that Harrisburg, Pa?

I should be there (wifeless, I think, however she likes the leaves turning) if I don't get "LOST" again.

I have it written down on the calender.

No problem about it not being the rough stuff, I'll leave the MTR's at home.
I guess it would make it for an easier trip, I am trying to figure out how to hall the MTR's with me on long distance trips.
If iti's too easy, I'll let my female travel buddy do the driving.

I'll have to check out the campsites.

Ok, so it looks like I will definitely be coming with the fiance (she likes to wheel, so that's no problem  ).

Do we want to get a group together and just get a group campground site? I'll be leaving on friday evening, and probably wont get to the campground until around 10-11PM, as we are coming from Northwestern PA.
