I have two different questions.

First off, I changed my oil today and cut the oil filter open. I had never done this and was just alittle curious at what they looked like inside. I cut it open and found some red specs in the filter media. What could these be?

Also, I filled my little bottle up for the polaris labs testing. Is this completely free or do I need to send some money in? It says pre-paid on the bottle but I didnt pay anything?

what did you take it apart with? and what color is the outside of the filter? making sure it isn't like paint chips off the filter or watever you took it apart with!!! just an idea........

Looks like little pieces of leftover gasket sealant. Doesn't look like a problem.

The filter is blue, about the same shade as my jeep.

I tore it open with a pair of crimping pliers. Kinda random, I know.

Id say thats what it is Cacher123. The oil did look alittle black this time, I can usually see right through it at 3k miles.
