I have 400 mi (about 10 days) to make the decision. Do you guys think I should spring for the 100,000 mi warranty? I have an 05 with 60,000 mile powertrane that covers the tranny buy not the EGR. I've never done the extended warranty before but I've always had good luck with cars.

I got one for our 06. With the price of repairs nowadays, if you use it only once it will be worth it. I say get it if you plan on keeping it for 100K miles.

It's individual preference as to whether you want to purchase basically an insurance policy. If I were to compare the cost of an out of warranty repair to replace the EGR and EGR flow control valve, I would estimate that repair around $700.
If your not running a PROVENT for keeping the intercooler clean and oil residue free, then you MAYBE looking at a intake manifold cleaning and replacing of the intercooler. Again, somewhere around $700 out of warranty.
So during the life of owning the vehicle the "small" out of warranty items roughly estimate at $1400.
Now when we look at the "big" out of warrany items such as the 545RFE transmission will run you around $5,500 just for the transmission alone without labor to tear down and insert the new one.
Outside of that, it's a crap shoot game!

I think it all depends on the price of the warranty and how long you intend to keep the vehicle. I got one on a 1990 Ford Taurus and I'm glad I did (tranny went out at 76k). I decided to get one on my '06 Liberty. I'm not really concerned about the engine; it's all the other stuff.

Usually I don't get an extended warranty; to each their own.

I purchased a power wrap plan with the emmision option that will cover the EGR beyond the 3/36000 warranty for less than $1,000.00. This takes me out to basically 7/70000 by that time it will probably be replaced anyway. The policy is transferable to purchaser should I decide to sell outright. I figured one EGR failure would pay for the policy.

Just know that the "Finance Guys" love to sell them...you can deal with them and get a pretty big discount if you are firm. If they won't budge, let them know you will be trying another dealer (locally or over the internet)

Well I have 100000 extended on mine. And when my tranny went I had a rental for two weeks on the extended part of my warranty. So that has already started to pay for it and I am at like 28,000

And I have purchased them in the past. In my experience if you drive alot as I do they pay off.

Would you get the warranty from DC or a third party?

I just got the extended warranty on ours that extends the 7/70 powertrain to a bumper to bumper zero deductible. Best price I could find was www.chryslerwarrantys.com. Put in your email address when it asks to add you to the mailing list and you get an automatic rebate.

I probably wouldn't mess around with a 3rd party warranty, but I'm pretty conservative.

They quoted me $2600 for the 7yr/100k warranty B2B with $0/deductable. What a rip off(I'm only at 14,650 miles and just under a year in service).

I just purchased the Toyota Platimum 7yr/100k zero deductible warranty for our all wheel drive Sienna for only $852.75, and that's after 2 years in service and 22,000 miles on the ODO.

I just reading on another website that some auto insurance policies can included the equivalent of extended warranty coverage and it recommended geico.

The geico site describes this: http://www.geico.com/auto/safety/mbi.htm:

... After a $250 deductible, MBI covers repairs to all mechanical parts of the car - except for maintenance and wear and tear. ... Once you've purchased MBI, you can renew it for up to seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first)...

GEICO’s MBI provides better coverage and is cheaper than the typical dealer extended warranty. MBI coverage:

* Includes all parts and systems-not just the specific list of items covered by most dealer warranties.
* Saves you money. You pay only a small premium each policy period-not a large lump-sum payment up front.
* Lets you get your car repaired wherever you like.

MBI Exclusions
Exclusions to this policy include such regular maintenance services as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and linings, brake shoes, and tires. Also, breakdown repairs made necessary by intentional damage, corrosion, misuse, or improper maintenance are not covered. Multi-Risk Insurance coverage is in excess of coverage provided by your manufacturer’s warranty. Read the policy amendment for the complete terms and conditions of this coverage.

The question is, would off-roading be considered misuse? If the vehicle is designed for it, has badges on it certifying it, and is advertized doing it, then it shouldn't be considered misuse? One would hope. (Time to take my CRD mountain climbing ;-) )

A $250 deductible seems a bit steep to me. Then again, compared to $700+ for each inevitable EGR replacment it may be worthwhile.

Wow - I just bought the 7/70 B2B zero deduct for about 1/2 that. I guess that last 30k really costs. But we only put about 1000 miles a month on it, so it will be a while before its sees 100k.

I'll go on record saying that if I never need use my extended warranty, I'll be a happy camper.

The value of your extended warranty is only about as good as your service dept. Overall I'm pretty happy with mine right now, which was a factor.

I bought the extented warranty from Chrysler for about half of the full price. I just found dealers that advertised on EBay and called up business managers to find out their best deal on the warranty. I bought the second one when he came in at half of the retail price. I did the deal right over the phone with a credit card. I think I had to fax the sales receipt for the vehicle. I recieved the paperwork back in a fax with the origionals comming in the mail within a few days. I have used the rental part of this warranty many times, as my Liberty has been in the shop for 28 days out of the last 7 months.

Well, I just did it. $100 deductible maximumcare plan from chryslerservicecontracts.com. The only other rational alternative I got from one of my coworkers is to just sell the CRD at 50-60K mi which he does with all his cars, but I'm looking forward to being a little more rough on it as it gets older.

I just signed up for the Maxi care from DC  Never bought a contract on anything before but I just bet a lot of $$'s that this tranny will dump after the three years up. Remember the 06 warranty is 3/36 and the 05 is 7/70 when your comparing prices.

I had never purchased an extended warranty until I bought this truck. My previous experience with "five star" service left a less than wonderful taste in my mouth, so I decided to cover my rear as best I could. I got an 05 and then got an extended warranty on top of the 7/76.

I think getting extended on the CRD is a good safe bet and money well spent.

your warranty INCLUDES a rental car? because it looks like the b 2 b ones at chryslerwarrantys.com charge $35/day for the rental...

and oh my gosh! 28 days in 7 months?!?! don't say that... I'm already on track towards that with 6 days in 1.5 months (and she's still in the shop) :(

After the Major Malfuntion I had yesterday at 8,100 miles (read thread close by), I found that the extended warranty I purchased(from DC) covers a Rent Car for the first five days...no questions asked. They will probably be putting a new engine in mine and DC hopefully will extend this time until the work is done. A service manager told me that he wishes more would buy the DC warranty instead of aftermarket...better coverage and easier claims.
