Would you go with two TrueTracs front and rear or a single ARB in the rear? In terms of my budget - I can get two DTTs OR for a little more $$$ I can get all the components (locker, airlines, compressor) required for one ARB.

The TTs seem to be problem free and less complicated (no switches, wires, air lines or compressors to deal with), but I want the best bang for my buck. I realize that the TTs are LSDs and the ARB is a locker, but with TTs on both ends I am wondering if the offroad benefit would be about the same as a single ARB.

Thoughts?

What year is your Liberty? Asking to find out if it has ESP. If it does I would say TT front and rear would be the winner, if it doesnt I couldnt say which would be best. If you are going to upgrade again at a later date I would do ARB now and add the TT later.

03 - so no ESP.

And I probably won't upgrade again later...maybe some bumpers but that doesn't really apply here.

if your going TT up front then going TT up back would be good, you need to tap the brakes, or actually just press the brakes lightly and gas as you go through obstacles to "lock-up" the TT's.

With smaller than 33" tires the TT's do very well and are very strong. Onraod can't even tell it's there.

I'd put a Powertrax in the rear due to it's affordability. The TrueTrac works good in the front but it's not a stellar performer. I chose the TT for the front due to the weakness of the D30A case and the lack of locking hubs.

There have been several discussion threads about this - but one of the questions I noted in Adam's thread - was, who has had both Truetrac and Powertrax? and of those that replied I only remember Darby and JFerg - had both and in other threads they both said they prefer Truetrac's (my words - although correct me if I'm wrong).

I've also done a fair amount of research and I'd say - if you have 1 tire in the air on a regular basis - you need a locker - if it's not in the air the Truetrac will work - and if you only get a tire airborne occasionally - you can do the brake trick to drive through.

I've also seen a lot of posts from people who have lockers - I'd like to hear from the folks who have Truetrac's or Auburn Limited slips.

I've got a TrueTrac in the front and a Powertrax rear. There is no comparison, the Powertrax is head and shoulders above the TrueTrac.

I think everyone agrees that a locker is going to beat a LSD anyday, but would one locker in the rear beat the TT in the front and rear?

My personal preference would be just a Powertrax in the rear then.

For the money he's talking about spending for one ARB(in another thread), he could have a Powertrax in the rear and a TrueTrac in the front.

Powertrax is not an option for me as we occasionally get 3' of snow and some nasty ice, my wife drives the rig, not in to chirping, clanking, etc...so let's leave that out of the discussion. The Powertrax is a great product, but just not my bag. Currently, I have an Auburn and it isn't working for %+$%^& anymore. I guess it simply wore out. The TTs are gear driven so I'm inclined to go with those if I'm getting another LSD. Optimally, you'd want ARBs front and rear, but I simply can't justify the expense.

So yeah, the real question is 2 TTs or 1 ARB in the rear. Would they perform equally as well (or close to it)?

When the Auburn was working correctly - how did it do offroad?

I would say the ARB in the rear, you have seen where I go, and I rarely turn on the front at all... Also in the snow, just turning on the ARB and staying in 2wd has worked great for me in the past few years.

Also, I could help save you money and we could put on the pump and wire and run the airlines, than all you have to do is get the unit installed into the axle housing.

Ted, can you tell me exactly what parts I would need for the pump, airlines, and switch? Just PM me...maybe we can hook all that up and then I'll just call some shops about doing the actually diff work. Also, did you switch to 4.10 gearing or see a need for it?

Thanks.

Wouldnt a TT do the same thing as a powertrax in the snow? I would go for an ARB.

Yes, I WANT an ARB...but cost is considerably higher. And no, the LSD vs. Lunchbox Locker is completely different in the snow.

If the TT is anything like a regular LS when it comes to putting torque to both wheels in a low traction situtation, I must say they wouldnt be very different. Ive seen many LS's in the snow and know how they behave.

No there wouldn't be any difference...the snow question was between a POWERTRAX and LSD in the snow. The TT is an LSD just like I have now...I get that. Fully locked is a whole other story though...regardless, the Powertrax is not even a consideration. It will be two TTs or an ARB. Pick which you'd prefer. 8)

I love my ARB. Cant beat the road manners and you get OBA. Plus flicking the switch when you need it always puts a grin on your face.
