Me "3"

1. Rock Lizard
2. orm
3. kickit_in4wheel
4. EOD-KJ
5. MoladoGuy
6. Wasatch15
7. Jeepin Al

My rear end guard (no not Mr. Otto) has been bent and at full suspension compression hits the gas tank skid. This is caused by the lift and the fact that I needed to move the rear back around 2 inches to center it in the wheel well. The cover will eliminate the guard, and the distance it sticks out from the pumpkin.

Al

Remove 10 bolts, clean surface of old RTV, put new RTV on, install new cover w/ new bolts, fill w/ fresh gear lube. done.

Hate to interupt the flow but any chance of the same mods to D44 covers? I am sure I will get one for My XJ 8.25 but I need a pair for my SFA KJ D44 project too.

I can get any cover you want. D30, D35, D44, D60, 14 bolt, with the additions being about $10-15 more. I will just need the thread, pitch, and length of the stock cover bolts to make sure you get the right hardware.

Dang, awesome response guys. My internet was down all morning, and didn't expect this type of response when I finally got on. My supplier will be very happy to here this. I'll be ordering up my own covers and get those tested out for you. I assume everyone on the list is in specifically for the 8.25 covers with all the bells and whistles. If you don't want to spend the extra $10 and just want the plain cover, please list PLAIN next to your name.

OK, this is the D30 cover with the drain plug on the bottom, and the countersunk holes. The 8.25 looks very much the same.

That looks like more of a screw than a drain plug. Do we need to worry about that thing backing out over time/mileage?

Also, when you test fit one, can you please measure the quantity of lube that goes in? I'm curious if capacity is reduced, the same, or more...

I dont think you would have to worry about it backing out any more than, oil drain plug or most any other bolt for that matter.

I would prefer a hex bolt rather than an Allen screw... But I’m sure we can just get a different on from the hardware store. But the one on this pic looks kind of small I would think that the size of the holes would be the same.

Wait! How is that little drain plug going to let all the metal chunks come out? :-)r

I plan on taking the whole cover off every other oil change. I really dont know how much crud builds up in there after a few changes. So maybe someone with experience can answer.

After the first two lube changes how much crud/metal can you expect to find when it is time to change it the 3rd time?
