Realistically, you don't need 33's or a SFA to go 90% of the places with a vehicle of this wheel base and size unless you are really getting nuts.

My opion of a Rubi Liberty with include 2" taller up country factory springs, different dampers, and 245/75 GY MTR's with the Rubi Wheels, 4:1 transfer case and the actuated locking diffs.

I think Jeep could easly sell a rig like this for $30k and it would truely be 'trail rated'. Let's face it, in stock form, our KJ's leave something to be desired off road unless you like to call to the animals with your singing skid plates. But, with a little bit of lift and some taller rubber, they are pretty amazing.

I totaly agree with 1,2,3, but the only reason I bought mine was the light bar. At that time I had no idea what I would be doing with it (the jeep that is). When I was ready to purchase the vehicle I even asked if I could get it without the leather.

I agree with WV, the light bar, the "Bushwacker" type fender flares, new fog lamp location, and the new hood/grill assembly style is why i looked more towards the Rennie over the other liberty's. IMO i think the new Rennie hood/grill style looks more manly.

They took care of those. The foglights on the renny are nice and add to the look a lot more than the pre-2005 models. And the roof-basket option is a normal mounted metal basket on crossbars, so it's respectable.

hello am new to this site. I just got a new 05 Liberty. I added the full skid plate package and some B.F. Goodrich allterrain TA's for tires. I had a 03 Ranger FX4 truck, and am worried that the Liberty will not go all the places I went in the Ranger. I live in Colo. and do a lot of stuff in the Ouray Silvertona areas. How trail worthly is the Liberty??? Will it handle 4-5 out of 10 rated trails. Any info anyone could supply would be much appreciated. Am affraid I made a mistake in buying the Liberty. Help me out Thanks Bluethunder25 in Denver

Did you purchase these with your KJ?

So didn't you do any homework before you bought the Liberty? I'm also wondering why you ask? I mean it's obvious from stalking this site before joining, the KJ is quite capable of off-roading.

Almost forgot, welcome to LOST.

Blue - be sure to check out the Lost Rockies section. Come on some runs with us and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised where your KJ can go. :D

NO I ADDED THE TIRES FROM THE ORGINAL STREET ONES. AM SORRY I AM NEW TO THIS TYPE OF WEB SITE. ALL I WANTED TO KNOW WAS HOW CAPABLE IS THE LIBERTY ON MID-RANGE TRAILS? DOES THE LOWER GROUND CLEARANCE REALLY EFFECT ITS OFF ROAD WORTHINESS?? ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL. I DID A LOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING, THAT IS WHY I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS BLUETHUNDER25

Don't be surprised if you go more places than your Ranger could go......and since the Ranger is a FORD............you will be able to go, in a JEEP.....MUhahahahaha! J/K

Liberty's have gone and done the HARD trails at Moab. Is that enough info for ya?

With careful tire placement you can drive a lot of stuff. Keep in mind that your approach and departure angles will be much better than they were with the pickup. That alone will probably make up for any ground clearance issues. The option to lift it is always there as well.

Just drive it, see what happens, and modify when needed...

BTW, your next step should be to purchase a set of rock rails or "Boulder Bars" from All J Products. Once you're fully protected then the rocks don't seem to worry you as much. :D

Get some rock rails to go with the skid plates and put up $400-500 for a 2.5" suspension lift and the Liberty will put your old Ranger to shame (assuming it was mostly stock).

Trail rated means you probably paid way  more for the factory options than better aftermarket products.

Do the cost analysis.

I do miss the old days, when things were much simpler. Why can't we just have Chrysler make cars, leave the trucks to Dodge, and let Jeep be, well, jeepy? *sigh* They're all starting to bleed into one another.

It just seems like folks are too complicated these days. Did you know that people used to walk everywhere? Believe it, or not...LOL could we become prisoners in our insatiable pursuit of material happiness? Is it time for me to switch to decaf and find a hobby? *crickets chirping*
