My own personal experience tells me to wait and see. When I was just starting college, Jeep stopped production of the XJ and introduced the KJ. I had just gotten my '88 Cherokee Pioneer with 45k on it less than a year before. I first saw the Liberty in a commercial at a movie theater climbing up the statue of liberty (oh I get it now!) and I was pissed. For the next couple years I still was bitter until I got up close to one and loved it! Long story short...when I got a job after college about 6 months ago, I bought one! And now I will never go back.

So the moral of this story is, bash all you want but you might be driving one in a few years :wink: .

Similar experience. Had a 98 XJ Classic and said "NO WAY" to the girly looking Liberty. 3 years later I'm in it and I have never looked back. I always get made fun of cause I was the one bashing it, now I'm driving it.

I say post what you want as long as it is not posted for the sake of "flaming". I am sure many people will like the new Liberty but the KJ will remain the original Liberty 8)

Hmm, interesting. Now I want to know when the Rescue or the Gladiator (or something similar to either one of those) is gonna hit the market. I fell in love with the Gladiator the first time I saw a picture 8)

One thing I can say I do like about it that I'm not usre if it has been said or not is that it seems to me to sit quite a bit higher then a stock KJ??? Anyone else see it or is it the tired fuzzy eyes seeing that???

No matter what it's called. the mpg will still be 12/18... Interesting when the Commander came out, gas prices were just starting to go over 2bucks. With them around 3, notice how the "lease" price has dropped almost in half? Just like the rest of DCX's "hi output" products, they just about can't give them away. By the time winter gets here and gas is 3.50 or higher, it will interesting to see which Jeep product dies off first.

I was at a dealer today to get a turn signal assembly (son got a little to close to a parked construction truck and broke the amber lense) so 42.00 later,... anyway, I seen some squared off Jeep of a thing parked in the back of the lot. It was black, had 4 doors and had a squared off rear end like a h3. It had JEEP on the lift handle but didn't see any other badges. Had the manufacture's plate so it had to be a "test vehicle". Didn't have the camera phone so I didn't get any pic's. It did look a lot like the inital posted pictures. It was about the size of a GC but taller. I also spotted a 4 door extended wrangler out near Farmington Hills Mi. It looked nice from the side.

That's funny! Go here for verification of that statement - it's a window sticker for a new 4-Door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon:

Who or what gets 12/18 mpg? I get 16 in the city and over 20 on the highway and mine is much heavier than a stock version.

I saw a vehicle today on the base and only saw its profile but it looked like the KK almost. The tailgate section looked like the new KK, the body was squared off like the new KK and it was much bigger than a KJ. It was not a Commander since there was one parked near it and was not anywhere like it. Wish I had the time to drive up to it and see what it was. The passenger doors were the only give away as to not being the KK. Too big.

I agree. I drove up to Albuquerque last night and over one 260 mile section I averaged 23.3mpg. That was with cruise set at 70, a/c off, and tires at 38psi. I knew it could get better than 22mpg if I tried 8)

wellllll....it looks poopy in the spy shots....

but as with all spy shots, as what everyone else has said, spy shots are made to deceive, i guarantee jeep reads stuff were saying anyways for input

but the real thing is so its not revealed till they want it to be.....there is SO MUCH padding and bras everywhere on it you cant even tell what it looks like.....

like one said, there arent even rear fender flares on it in those pics, plus all the padding up front covers a LOT of the curves that i think it really is sporting underneath... and i THINK that the "boxes" around the headlights are part of the deception.....they dont look right , kind of like a fake cover, like the c5 corvettes projection headlight conversion.

you can easily see in the "bra box headlights" where they curve on the sides, very apparent on the passenger side headlight .... also where the "bug guard" bra meets the headlights you can see where it is curved upwards, indicating that its curvy there too.

also, next to those "dots" next to the headlights it looks pretty curvy where it meets the front fender flares, more curves

as far as the lack of rear fender flares i think that is throwing most people off kilter, it does look ODD without them, but im pretty sure jeep wouldnt let this out the door without them for us

the side looks a little elementish, dfont know why, it just looks TALL and "boring" ...

the rear is my biggest gripe like most of you, i love the rear tire....without this it does seem a little lacking, a little "missing"....

all in all im excited.....jeep knows how well the KJ did from our community, so natrually their replacement will feature changes and upgrades, and downgrades.....but i think they will improve our offroad capabilities, well they should i hope....looks bigger so theres more room that everyone has asked for....

we shall wait and see... i like it so far

TAKEN FROM ALLPAR.COM (http://www.allpar.com/model/upcoming.html) :

Quote:
The Dodge Nitro takes an on-road path and the Liberty staying off-road. The Nitro looks like a bigger version of the Caliber but is based on the Jeep Liberty, and is built on the same line.

Liberty sales are surprisingly high, beating the Ford Escape to be the best-selling compact SUV in America for 2005. The Nitro is now being built; the redesigned Jeep Liberty is due on August 2007. Toledo North, a four year old plant, is expected to produce 300,000 vehicles per year (225,250 Libertys were sold last year). Diesel Libertys will skip 2007 and perhaps 2008.

The 2008 Liberty goes back to the Cherokee squarish look (á la Commander), and is about six inches longer. Again, a rectangular plastic front lens guards separate headlights and turn signals. The side glass is a bit shorter than in the current model, and the trapezoidal fenders continue; front wheels are moved forward. The interior is simple but wider than current models, with a much more luxurious Limited model. Door panels look cheaper, and the back seat is more comfortable. There is a larger cargo area, with power outlets; the 3.7 liter V6 and four-speed automatic will remain, at least for a while (Thanks, CanadianYJ). The Liberty will include hill descent control, stability control with roll prevention, a cargo slide-out system, factory remote start, and the usual stereo/nav system gadgets. (Thanks oh20).

TAKEN FROM WKJEEPS.COM :

Quote:
2008 Jeep Liberty (WKJeeps.com exclusive info)

* All-new KK series (Dodge Nitro platform)
* Production starts July 2007
* Body styling similar to Nitro, Front similar to the Jeep Rescue concept
* Electronic Stability Program with Electronic Roll Mitigation
* Hill descent control
* Load ’n Go rear cargo slide out system
* Navigation radio, new touch screen
* Premium sound system with subwoofer
* Rear DVD Video Entertainment System
* Remote start, factory installed
* Sirius Satellite Streaming Video

I for one am looking forward to a better Liberty. DiamlerChrysler fixed all of the things wrong with the existing model. It's bigger, more powerful and [cross your fingers] has better ground clearance. I don't see anything wrong with those changes.

The current Liberty was labeled as a Cute-UTE by the general public. As in, more women than men own one because of it's shape. The next generation should be just as good as the current model, but better. I don't know if I will purchase another one or move on to a different model yet or not.

that is SO a Patriot....! haha kidding.

I'm really really intruiged by the whole new look.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the spare tire.

I'm a founder of an expedition group....in 2008 we're running a huge expedition that will basically run the entire country....Halifax Nova Scotia to Denali park in Alaska...and back through the northern territories. All in all about 20,000km's.

We want to use the Liberty for our team members.....4 of them to be exact.

The spare will not be able to fit on the roof....with our roof top tents and other gear in place there.....it will not be able to fit inside....again too much gear....so it would appear that to get the spare...I would have to unhook our trailers....crawl underneath....in snow, mud, rocks, sand, whatever....yuck!

Hmm....hood top mount like an old Land Rover?? :roll:

At least with the current Liberty when a trailer is on, I can just swing open the door away from the trailer and remove the wheel....one of the many reasons we wanted to use the Liberty.

I hope a few changes in that respect are made.

Other than that....looks okay so far. :wink:

I don't know guys.. Seems I hear more people with gas engines getting mid teens at best in city and high teens maybe 20 hwy. Have not met one Commander owner getting more then 19 on the hwy, even with the V6. My KJ (before going to 235's got 23mpg once on the hwy and stayed in the VERY LOW 20's after that. Driving 75 for about 200 miles neted me 19. No A/C, it was winter. Even with a K&N filter. Its now getting 15 city and 19 hwy and I drive it nice (unlike the wife). She's lucky to get 250 miles out of a tank around town. Think that's around 13mpg. But as far as diesels go, when we can stick a diesel in a Class C motor home and get low 20's, you would think they could do better with the Jeep/CRD. And this is from this website.. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=12501
