Hey guys, I've found this site very informative and it's answered most of my questions thoroughly. I appreciate a source like this to come to when you are new to KJ scene. Anyways on to the questions I have. First off I am currently looking for a KJ and I've narrowed it down to getting a renegade. Heres a question..some of the vehicles I've found fit my price range and everything I'd like in my KJ but I find that some of them lack the lights on the top which I think look awesome. What I want to know is, is it possible to buy these lights through Jeep/Chrysler? I'd like to get the OEM part, not aftermarket (dont even know if they make them or not) and I was wondering how much of a challenge this would be and what the cost may be. I plan to put money into my KJ later on..for more offroad 4X4 capabilities, but for right now I'd like to get the lights for it. Another question...there's been alot of talk about how the select 4X4 would be better than the Command-Trac 4X4 system. I guess I'd like to know what years this feature is on...because I'm having a hard time finding KJs that do have them. What are the advantages to this system over the command system? And I guess another question...how does everyone feel about the ESP?? I hope this isn't too much...I'm just trying to understand your guys views on the matter and see how you guys feel about these options. Thanks in advance, and this is an awesome site!!

Hey there and welcome! You can buy the factory light bar from the dealer. From what I hear the biggest deal about installing it is the fear of drilling the holes in your roof in the wrong spot. Hopefully other folks can chime in with some more info.

the '06 KJs have the ESP program. I hear the guys with automatics have had great luck with them (If you go for a manual, search on esp & manual first). Off road it uses the break system to act like a LSD or limited locker. On road it keeps you from spinning out on wet roads.

As for the 4x4 (selctrac = full time, commandtrac = part time), I like the part time commandtrac.

I also prefer the part time transfer case, mainly because it's what I am used to. On ESP, I do not like it on my '06 Renegade with the 6 speed. My issues might not be a big deal to some, or to someone who lives on flatter ground. Here, where everything is either up or down, it can be a pain.

On the light bar, it is available as a accessory kit under the part number 82206126AB. List price is $449.00 and it lists an install time of 1.5 hours.

The lightbar is available from jparts.com for $370.20.

Some of the members here have added it themselves. Fouros is one that I can think of.

I like the Selectrac, mainly because that is what I'm used to both in my KJ and previous XJ.

Thanks for all the replys guys..it helps. Moose..you are the first person I've read that likes the command-trac. Everyone I've talked to you says they don't care for this and would rather have the selec-trac. It's going to be hard to find one w/ selec-trac w/ everything I want so I'm probably going to have to settle w/ the comman-trac. This is just a start w/ me...I guess I don't even know what to expect!!! Again..thanks guys! See you out on the trail hopefully in the near future!

I don't know if they make the renegade with a select-trac. I ordered mine custom and I didn't have the option. I would have liked the full-time 4wd option, but the Command-Trac HD is a pretty nice transmission, too. I just know to switch to 4Hi when I need it (rain, snow, etc).

Exactly, and you definately know when you need it, lol. You can shift into 4 hi up to like 50 MPH or something similar and even go from 4 hi to 4 lo at a slow roll, like 10 MPH. Also, I think the Command-Trac HD Part-Time 4WD system is the only setup made on the Renegade, at least for '06.

The more I think about it, the more I think that the Command-Trac will suite me and my driving a whole better. I'm better of w/ the part time because not only will this be my play vehicle but also my daily driver. I just want to have fun with it and see where it take me..maybe hit a few runs w/ the Midwest LOST club and just have fun modifying it. I'm finding many rennys that are affordable and fit what I want so I'm probably gunna go w/ one of those. Thanks for the help/opinions.

Did you purchase yours new?? Did you have this option when you were purchasing it? Most are saying they never had that option w/ the 06' Rennys.

Yes I purchased it new in June. It came with the full time and part time selectors on the tranfser case.

hmm...well I'm not purchasing mine brand new from a dealer...but I have been looking at some very low milage 06' Renegades and most of the ones I'm seeing are Command-Trac. I'm probably gunna settle w/ a Command-Trac...but how do you like your full time 4WD?

If you go to the Jeep.com website and try to build an '06 Liberty Renegade it will only give you the option for either the command-Trac system or the Command-Trac HD system.

My 05 has select-trac and the trac-lok diff, so from that you should be able to find an 05 Renny or older w/ select. Someone correct me if I`m wrong and if I am, need to check my build sheet again.... :?

TracLok is an LSD. I've been looking for lockers, and I thought I've seen an astrix on each of them about not being for full-time 4wd systems...

just bought an 06 rene built as of 04/06
the light bar only comes with the 28D pkg.

the dealers are stupid when it comes to pkgs. they only know what the vin# deciphers as.

the light kit purchased @ dealer was 475 installed 1 day installation.

make sure you get the TOW pkg. (hd cooling 2 fans 1 elect 1 mech)
make sure you get the SKID plate group as well.
automatic is sweet even better with VLP tranny option.
command trac is fine shift on fly when in need.
with the towing pkg i believe it upgrades tires & put the rear at 3.73 gearing as well.
NO regets but finding a 06 rene this late in the year
with all the options & color of your choice starts getting real tough....
