The Pinnacles Fire is presently blazing in the area of our trail, 2N33. Right now only SH 173 is partially closed. Sue and I live in an area that's presently under voluntary evacuation orders, but we think that fire here is not highly likely for several reasons.

In any case, we'll need to watch and listen for updates and closures. I'll post what I find and anyone else please do the same if it affects our trail.

You all be careful, and get out of there if things turn worse.

Well that'd take care of the trash. Seriously though, watch out for yourselves.

The fire has just been downgraded to a level 1 and many support people have been dismissed. So it looks good for tonight. Thanks for the good wishes Jeger and Nanette.

I'll let you know if our trail has a problem; otherwise we should be on for Saturday.

Yes, it's closed at the junction with 2N34. The closure doesn't mention from which direction but I imagine it's toward Lake Arrowhead from the junction. If so, that would mean we could still do a lot of the trail but not all.

The fire appears to be much more in control now. However, the expected full containment date is now 9/25.

Should we go ahead and do what we can on Saturday? If we can't do our trail, there are always others. Or should we just set another date? Please weigh in on what you think.

I'm open, but we really only have one other weekend in the near future. Oct 7/8 are the dates for the Offroad show right? Then Oct 14-16 = DVNP trip. So that leaves 9/30 - 10/1.

I say lets go for it and then we will play it by ear. If we can't do it, we will just go run another trail and have fun! :D

OK, then, it's a go. At last reading the fire is still only 57% contained, but the voluntary evacuation advisement we had has been lifted.

So, see you Saturday, you trashy people.

One way
Or another
We're gonna get you
You trashy trashy trail we're gonna clean you
And de-brush you
We're gonna rock you
And maybe move a limb or two
One way
Or another...

Oh, what talent.

Sorry, we're supposed to be chain saw certified to use one, and those certifications aren't easy to come by. We're looking to get that situation improved. On the other hand, there may well be no need for one. Other gas powered stuff? We've used a gas powered jack hammer, and there's no certification for that. A gas weed eater? Don't know, maybe not a problem, but again, not likely to be required. The tools we use most are loppers, shovels, rock bars, sledge hammers, and I like a buck saw for some things. Gloves, long sleeve shirts, long pants, boots, eye protection: good things for working. If you have any or all of these things, please bring.

As of this morning, fire is pretty much knocked down.
I'm sure you guys will be able to get up there and have a good time.

Meeting location? I know the time is 8:00am, but ... do we just meet at the trailhead? If so I already have the GPS coordinates.

Burchie: I still haven't been able to find out from what end 2N33 is closed. Seems like we've decided to go in any case; do the trail or do some other trail. I've got a call in to someone who may be able to tell me more. If I learn something I'll post here.
