Hi.

I'm wondering if the salty road conditions in Ontario over the winter months will destroy my MT Classic II aluminium rims?. I'm assuming the salt will "pit" the surface?

If this is the case I'll through steelies on for the winter.

I have the stock limited rims and they have done fairly well in our south dakota winters considering the amount of salt they use on our street. They do have some places on the rims where the clear coat has started to come off...
However, my brother has BFG's on steel rims and they have rusted VERY bad. It might have been the cheap rims but they are bad...

MT Classic IIs are polished, there is no clear coat. The Mickey Thompson website has a maintenance section, they recommend removing the wheels for the winter.

If you are running unsealed polished aluminum, take them off in the winter as the salt will first turn them dull silver/white then start to pit them. I would get some cheap beater steel wheels. Even if you have to repaint them every year, it's better than ruining expensive polished aluminum. If you really want to keep those wheels in the winter, you may want to look into having them sprayed with clear coat. A lot of newer truck wheels are done that way.
