New Lower ball joint Leaking

I had my lower ball joints replaced two weeks ago.
I just noticed they are leaking grease. Sealed balljoints shouldn't leak right?

I wonder if it has something to do with how rough the casting is on the lower arms. It doesn't look like a tear or anything - it looks to be oozing where the boot meets the arm. maybe you can clean up the area and try to tighten down the joint a little more?

interesting, yeah i think that may be a good start. You would think that the tech would clean that up w/ a wire brush or somthing? Thats quite a bit of rust on there.

The joint may of just had to much grease in it? The surface it touches wont cause it to leak. It has a clamp around it to seal in the grease. I would give them a call and see what they say. It doesnt really matter anyway, after a recall like this they must replace them for life.

Ohh, and pixs, if you look at the joint, tighting it more wont put more pressure where its leaking.

I have a question, i had mine done under the original 02 recall earlier this summer and they are slightly loose again. Is it something that i could just "tighten" the bottom nut on there and it tighten back up? or does the thread stop?

Nope, if it has play in it then you need new ones... Again.. As you said, the threads stop. :wink:

Nope, if it has play in it then you need new ones... Again.. As you said, the threads stop. :wink:

Its sad that i have had that set on there for around 6 months and they are already loosening up... uhhhhh

Not everyone has the time or money to put moogs in. I was on summer break and would be getting the recall joints if I was in school. I dont have time to do anything, nor do I feel like doing anything.

True Jeepster. But I am not exactly rich either. I made it a priority and DC MIGHT even reimburse me (no guarantee but...). I just happen to think that DC will never get these right and someone will get injured because of it. For $120 + labor (or DIY) I believe it is the most important mod you can do. (You hear that Moog...send me a sticker or something...)

On a side note, these are the best years of your life dude....enjoy em' !!

Dumb questions but what is a MOOG. Never heard of it.
Also are their any LBJ or UBJ with zerks installed? Greasing them once in a while the easy way would help.

Moog is the manufacturer of serviceable ball joints (with zerks installed)...so you can grease them once in a while.

Keep in mind that you have to replace the entire upper arm as the stock UBJ is permanently attached.
