Thats why an 05 used XTerra (off-road model) for US$ 25000 sounds like a big deal.

I'd definitely get a Carfax report on that truck. That's a big price drop for one year and only 3k miles of use. If you can't get a Carfax about vehicles in your area, I think I'd steer clear of this vehicle. Not because of manufacturer, but because of the price. When it's too good to be true, it usually is.

That's not always true. We looked at an 05' Range Rover that a woman had owned for only a month and put 500 miles on that had a sticker of $56,500. (New Range Rovers start at 75,000, and this one was loaded).

Sometimes you actually can find an amazing deal.

True that. I was making an assumption when I made that comment. I assumed that the Xterra for sale was being offered at a dealership. Sometimes you can find a vehicle for sale by owner at incredibly good prices. I don't know why I made that assumption. If this Xterra is for sale by someone's that's just trying to pay off their loan or something like that, then I'd say GET IT! Even if you actually decide on a KJ, you could turn the Xterra around and make money off it.

I'd still suggest getting a Carfax report if you can, even if it is for sale by owner. As always, buyer beware.

Well the range rover we looked at (and didn't end up getting for the record :( ) was at a dealership .. but regardless, the carfax report is a good idea. Too often cars are sold at too good to be true prices because they have damage that you cannot see immediately. If this is just truly a good deal .. nice find!

Hey dog_party!! Thanks a lot for your comments.

I've never heard of a Carfax before, doesn't seem to exist something like that here, but I suppose it's purpose is to confirm the mechanical conditions of the vehicule or even the ownership status (if it's leggaly owned).

The CRD is not an option because i'ts not offered here in Mexico.

And is an owner that is selling the XTerra directly, he claims to need the money because of a health problem, so it seems to be all right.

Thanks again, I'm re-reading all your postos because I want to make a clever choice.

And remember, my very first option is to get an 04 Renegade, but I didn't find one for sale yet. If I come across with a Renny, no doubt, this will be the choice.

The KJ maynot be the best SUV ever made but for the price it's hard to beat.

I like mine anyway.

BTW if you get a KJ maybe a daystar spacer lift would be good for you.

Sorry you don't get the diesel. You must be the ONLY other country that doesn't have MORE diesel options than the US.

That's too bad that you don't have Carfax there in Mexico. Get a mechanic to check out the truck before you even talk to the guy about buying it. If he won't let you take it to a mechanic, then walk away, you don't want that truck. The "I'm selling it for medical reasons" is an old trick in the private party sales world. I'm not saying this guy isn't legit, but tread cautiously.

Man, you weren't kidding that an Xterra in Mexico goes for $36k American! $378,800 pesos for the SE without any options! Wow!

In America, the sticker price on a LOADED Xterra is about $32,000. The sticker price on a loaded Liberty is about $32,000 too. So the vehicles are seen as pretty equal (monetarily) in this country. But I see that in Mexico the Liberty Limited is $273,900 pesos and the Xterra SE is $378,800. That is a CRAZY difference!! The Xterra is a nice truck, but it is NOT worth $105,000 more pesos than a KJ. If I were in that type of situation, I would DEFINITELY get a Liberty!! Wait it out and find a guy who is selling his Liberty for medical reasons. Jeez, you'll get it for CHEAP and have all kinds of money left over for lockers and skids!

Or, heck, go buy a NEW Liberty Limited! According to the website, you could get a new 4X4 Limited for the same price this guys is asking for nis used Xterra.

After doing this research, I'm going to have to vote for Liberty for you. The Xterra is a really nice truck, but I'd never pay that much more for it than a Liberty.

Plus NISSAN dealer service in Mexico is way more expensive than DODGE. I pay less money for the libby than for my 4 door 4cyl Platina (compact car similar to honda civic) every time.

NISSAN cars and trucks are very good but the liberty is a very good option. I was also looking at X-terras and Frontiers but the price of the libby helpeda lot when making the decition.

Good luck,

Octavio

PS: visit the site www.jeeperos.com you'll find a lot of info about libbys in Mexico

I may be riding along with a stock Xterra tomorrow. I wont be taking the libby but Ill take alot of pics. Its the same trail Ive had mine on and posted pics of 10 times, so i know just how my libby was stock. Since this one is stock with no locker, it compares to the libby alittle better than the one with lockers and everything.

I may not even go though.. :?
