Got this in response to my email to DC:

Quote:
My original email:

Question about Lower Ball Joint Recall
Comments:
I have an '03 Liberty Renegade. I know I am part of the Lower ball Joint
Recall yet my vin still returns a "No incomplete recalls exist for your
vehicle" when I check it on the web site. What happens now?

DC's Response:

Dear CHRIS:

Thank you for your recent email to DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation.

Due to size of this recall & capacity of parts production, only 25,000
owner mailings will be sent out on a weekly basis - maybe 10+ months to
complete initial owner mailings.

Therefore, our records indicate this vehicle is not currently involved
in any outstanding factory recalls.

You can periodically access the self-service recall site on the internet
to check on your vehicle's involvement in any/all recalls that are
published. Simply go to one of our brand sites: www.chrysler.com;
www.dodge.com or www.jeep.com and click on "For Owners" and then "Recall
Notices" and follow the instructions on the pop up recall page. You
will need the last eight digits of your Vehicle Identification Number
(VIN).

Thanks again for your email.

Sincerely,

Dante

Senior Staff Representative
Chrysler Group Customer Assistance Center

For any future communications related to this email, please refer to the
following information:
REFERENCE NUMBER: 1539209
EMAIL CASE NUMBER: 157902

So , basically DC will be completing mailing out recall notices about the time they stop production on the LIB!

I printed my letter from the Jeep.com website and took it to the dealership today so that they could order the part. So the guy at the service center says that they would have to look at my Lib first to see if there was damage and then they would replace it if they needed to. I had to explain to him that a recall is a preventative measure taken by DC not an extended warranty as he said it was. He said "I know what a recall is", and then he filled out the paper work.
It seems like in Miami you have to argue your point for everything until anything will be done. Has anybody else had any problems with the dealerships??

all you have to do is call your jeep dealership and tell them about the recall, and they can look it up in their comp and they will be able to schedule you without the recall letter...thats what i did and they will replace them on wednesday the 20th of sept....awesome deal...

Just and FYI and update...

background...

When this thread was on page 3 I sent an envelope to Chrysler, to the address listed on the recall, with a copy of my maintenance receipt and a nicely worded letter requesting reimbursment under the recall. This was maybe 3 weeks ago?

Ahmar (sp?) From Chrysler called me today. He said the receipt was fine, but I needed proof of payment. I said I paid cash and he said he'd call the repair shop I used to confirm payment. I got in touch with the repair shop later on and they said that the same gentleman did call to get verification of payment.

It's a good sign to me.

So for those of us who haven't had the recall done yet, or are even listed in the computer as requiring it, I guess the thing to do would be to run out and get the Moogs installed and mail the rect to DC.

I had the LBJ recall done yesterday. So now I have a 31/2 year old Jeep on its 3rd set of balljoints. I am hoping these new balljoints will do the job. The dealer did not do an alignment however. I asked the service guy why not, since it is specified in the service manual for a ball joint replacement. His reply was that the only time this is done is if an alignment is done after the balljoints have begun to wear, and the new ones will alter the alignment settings. Sounds like horseradish to me, but I let it go. I doubt if it's going to make much of a difference, I just wanted to hear a service guy make up a flimsy story...

Had my LBJ's replaced today. Took 2 hours and no hassle. Hopefully no more recalls anytime in the near future.

Had mine done today as well. I took it to John Elway Jeep in Denver. In and out. No BS. Very friendly and FAST (two hours).

called the dealer to set up this and they said the parts department hasn't even got them in yet. This is a 5 star dealer. Maybe they're feeding me a line a bull. I'll have them check the play and have that documented.

Got the new LBJs yesterday. So far so good. It does feel a little stiffer(which is a good thing), but maybe they just have to break in and then they might feel the way the old ones did. Anybody else feel any difference in the new ones??

When I dropped off my Liberty for the LBJ recall on Friday 9/29/06 I asked about the alignment and he said he’ll check it afterwards to make sure it doesn’t need it. When I picked it up, I asked if it needed one he said no. So at least that DC dealership was checking the alignment but it could have been as a courtesy. On the way home the alignment was fine.

Called my nearby trusty dealer at 12:05pm today and asked what they were doing for the recall and the woman said just make an appointment. I asked if she could get me in this week and she said can you be in by 1:00pm. I said, uhhhhhh........yeah. I then asked if they could do the oil change and lube the Libby also while it was in. She said no problem.

I got home, put my bike in the back of the KJ ( I didn't want to deal with putting on the hitch rack), got my cycling clothes on, tossed my "work" clothes in a backpack, and headed to the dealer.

I dropped it off and road my mountain bike back to work. The dealer calls me at 3:25pm and said it is ready for me to pick it up. I asked what time they closed and the guy said 6pm. I told him I'd be there by 5:30pm. I got off work at 4:30pm and road the 8 miles to the dealer. I got there and the tech led me to the pay desk. I signed some paperwork and the lady said, you must be happy with that charge. Total cost - $0.00. I said yeah, sure am.

I get the keys and head out to my KJ. I toss the bike in and change out of the cycling shoes. I grab a napkin from my glovebox, pop the hood, and check the oil level. Good to go. Check the oil filter, good to go. Look at the new ball joints, blue color..... good to go. I couldn't check the oil pan plug so I looked at the ground for any oil leak, good to go. Grabbed some Taco Bell, good to go.....just kidding (you have to know the commercials to get that).

When I got home, I took pictures of both ball joints.

Here is what was done at the dealer:

A Recall #F23
Cause: Per recall
33 recalls
83232 WJ4
1 CBXEF230 Balljoint-lower control A
FC: Part#: Count:
Claim type: W
Auth Code:

then:

Internal Lifetime oil
Lube Oil and Filter
Check Exterior lights, horn, wiper blades, tire pressure, e-brake, exhaust, belts, brake and fuel hoses, C/V boots, all fluids, air filter

No charge

Hey Tokeojoe,
I am glad that Lithia of Aurora treated you right. That is where I got my '06 back in June. They seemed like a good group of people. Plus, I got a screamin deal. My build date was May '06 and I am fortunate enough to already have the blue lbj's.

ok this is stupid.. ok.. i called my dealer in August about this and they said no recall notice yet they cant do anything.. well i keep checking on jeep.com and in early september it showed the recall on my VIN so i called in and they told me i had to get on a list of people who are waiting to get this done.. well that was over 3 weeks ago.. i took my jeep in to get the tires rotated at wally since i bought the tires there last year at 50K miles.. i now have 66K miles.. the guy tells me i have to sign a waiver stating they told me about uneven wear on my tires..and that i needed to get my jeep looked at by dealer or mechanic.. i asked him what would cause this wear.. he said mechanical failure.. i asked him like say balljoints.. he goes.. yah.. well i have rotated them at ever 4-5K since i got them last fall.. so I call the dealer again and talk to the service manager.. i told him who i was.. i bought my liberty there..etc.. and i tell him about the tires.. he asks are they wearing on the inside and i told him yah.. he said.. yep.. your balljoints are bad like the rest.. and im like yah so what you going to do about it.. he goes.. well i cant do anything.. you will have to contact chrysler corp and tell them about your tires.. see if they will reimburse you for them.. and he said im near the top of the list but they are only getting 8-10 balljoints a week and they have a few more people in front of me.. he said i should call in and complain because they have ordered a bunch more but so far only getting a handful a week.. wtf is the problem with chrysler??? wtf???

does anyone know who i should contact at chrysler about my tires.. they only got 16K miles on them and there is uneven wear around the inside.. i feel i should be reimbursed or given new tires or something.. especially when its been over 2 months of calling and I still havent gotten my ball joints replaced.. :(

any ideas..

I would try and find out who your district manager is for all DC dealers near you and complain, biatch and hissy fit at him until he does something over the top of helping you, like getting free oil changes for life or something....this could be a life or death issue here and i'd like to get it resolved as quickly and through any channel I can b4 the worst should decide to happen....

So I got my new ball joints on last week and now I noticed that the car is pulling to the right. I am going to call the dealer tomorrow and see what they can do. Does anybody think that they will do anything about it? If they do not, do I have the right to complain? Should this be fixed by the dealer?
