I had the LBJ recall done yesterday. So now I have a 31/2 year old Jeep on its 3rd set of balljoints. I am hoping these new balljoints will do the job. The dealer did not do an alignment however. I asked the service guy why not, since it is specified in the service manual for a ball joint replacement. His reply was that the only time this is done is if an alignment is done after the balljoints have begun to wear, and the new ones will alter the alignment settings. Sounds like horseradish to me, but I let it go. I doubt if it's going to make much of a difference, I just wanted to hear a service guy make up a flimsy story...

That's interesting. I did have an alignment done recently at Firestone (I have lifetime alignment there). But I hate when the dealer messes with my front end because they once "fixed" my Clevis lift! So maybe I'll just bring it back to Firestone after dealer.

I got my recall noticed from the dealership last week. I gotta make the appt.

I haven't been around in a while (just bought a `68 LeMans Convertible so I've been on Pontiac boards lately! :D ) so this has been good catchup reading!

Got mine done today!! Took it in @ 10 am and they called me 12:30 PM saying it was done. It drivers stiffer which feels better because I thought the steering felt a little sloppy!

I'm done now and it seems a tad stiffer. I do have heat sheilds now, which i didn't have before. I feel a little better knowing I have "new" lbjs under there but still not sold on the quality.

just a question on the ball joints, i didn't read all the post.. so hopefully my question wasn't already ans.
I had to get both ball joints replaced about 1 year ago after I got my lift and new tires. I took it into the 4X4 shop to make sure everything was good after our first off roading event. So I was going to get an alignment as well, and the tech guy said that I needed ball joints. So I called the dealership and they said there wasn't anything they would do at that time (no re-call) and that the problem was probably due to the lift...yadaa yadaa.. anyways I had them done by the 4X4 guys.. Now..whew...the question? are 2004 included, and do you think I should contact the dealership again?? to see if they needed to be redone again, or if I could get them to pay for the ones already replaced... I know stupid question.. but maybe one of you have had the same thing happen. Thanks Theresa

The recall is for all Liberties, except, I think some of the last batch of 06's, but I might be wrong about those. Give the dealership a call with your VIN number and have them check for recalls. Or go online to the DC website and check it for yourself. It's a really good idea to get the new ones installed.

Also, if you have your old receipts, I think someone else here got their money back from DCX for prior repairs. I've successfully done that on cars in the past as well.

Just got my recall on Jeep.com Funny thing is it's dated 09/06 & I've been checking it every couple of days since the first media announcement. It wasn't on there on 9/06. The last time I checked it was around 10/15 and it wasn't there yet. Liars! :x

So when will I get my letter?
I can see on Jeep.com that my VIN number indicates I am part of the recall, but still no letter. How long does it take for the letter to arrive?

Schnell
